Help connect Lynmouth

Many Slow Ways have several route options. Some will be better than others, or good for different reasons.

Our goal is for each Slow Way to have at least one route that is verified and surveyed. To be verified – and get its snail badge – a route needs at least three positive reviews.

Give a hike and help get a for every one of Lynmouth’s Slow Ways.

Walk this route

As per my review for Lynsim 1, this is a reasonably easy route to follow, except for the open moorland stretches where the path can get lost. It wouldn't suit a wheelchair user....

Walk this route

There's open moorland, which can be a little tricky to follow in poor visibility with only faint traces of path on the ground, but this is otherwise a straightforward route to follow as it matches the Two Moors Way which is signposted. It wouldn't be suitable for people using wheelchairs....

The first 300 metre ascent from Lynmouth to Lynton and deeper into Exmoor was strenuous, but I'd do it again! Loved the stunning views of the coast and the shops in Lynton....

This is a good route and quite possibly the best way to walk between Parracombe and Lynmouth....

Quite steep walk down into Lynton but overall a lovely walk, well worth the effort....

Walk this route

I walked this route from Parracombe to Lynmouth and really enjoyed it. After this, the route is along lanes, which are sometimes lined by hedgerow, sometimes open with great views....

Pubs along the route at Rockford, Brendon and Porlock Weir as well as lots more at both Lynmouth and Porlock. I parked in Porlock and got the Exmoor Coaster Bus to Lynmouth before walking back....

Walk this route

However the section of footpath between Culbone Church and Porlock Weir is not maintained, making access very difficult. It is overgrown, there are lots of fallen trees and a couple landslides. I have created LYNPOR 2 which solves this issue....

Walk this route

It is almost entirely off road accross open moorland and the descent into Lynmouth is something special (although a bit hard on the knees)....

The route from Ilfracombe to Lynmouth for the most part follows the coast path, with dramatic views over the North Devon coastline....
