Help connect Parracombe

Many Slow Ways have several route options. Some will be better than others, or good for different reasons.

Our goal is for each Slow Way to have at least one route that is verified and surveyed. To be verified – and get its snail badge – a route needs at least three positive reviews.

Give a hike and help get a for every one of Parracombe’s Slow Ways.

Walk this route

I walked from Simonsbath to Parracombe, purely because with no public transport I have to rely on a lift to Simonsbath, but it's the easiest way in terms of climbing. I really enjoyed the walk through Parracombe, a picturesque village, and the route ends by the pub, which is also the bus stop. There aren't any facilities on the route, and not many at Simonsbath or Parracombe either, but this IS Exmoor....

That said, even a significant deviation from the route isn't going to cause big problems, as the field boundary edge isn't far away and works as a good handrail to get to the correct corner....

The first 300 metre ascent from Lynmouth to Lynton and deeper into Exmoor was strenuous, but I'd do it again! Loved the stunning views of the coast and the shops in Lynton....

This is a good route and quite possibly the best way to walk between Parracombe and Lynmouth....

I really enjoyed the deep and old holloways, a few of which were also streams on the day we walked this route. I think another good route option could duck into the middle of Combe Martin. I'd 100% recommend this route and walk it again....

Walk this route

I really enjoyed this route walking from Parracombe to Barnstaple (less uphill). After Twitchen however the walk really improves. The route goes through Bratton Fleming, where there is a shop, but not directly on the route. There is a short bit of road walking in Bratton, which isn't ideal. The walk into Barnstaple is pretty good as it is mostly off road....

I walked this route from Parracombe to Lynmouth and really enjoyed it. After this, the route is along lanes, which are sometimes lined by hedgerow, sometimes open with great views....

Then the route heads towards Combe Martin and sea views. Combe Martin is roughly half way, and the route passes The Pack of Cards pub, as it cuts across town. The first being between Combe Martin and Berrynarbor....
