This route is almost the same as SimWhe2 but has a really tough walk between Warren Bridge and Little Ashcombe that I personally would not want to do again....

Lovely walk on Exmoor, but with some tough parts to get through....

A lovely walk over moor, through woods etc but we did go wrong as path not easy to find and ended up climbing out of a disused quarry - quite the adventure! Other than that problem, and assuming we found the right path, I would do it again - beginning, middle and end having lovely refreshments available if wanted....

There is no path on the ground, and if you follow the right of way using gps you miss the gate. Once through the gate follow the fence on your right until you reach the Macmillan Way West, then follow the steep path downhill to Warren Bridge....

Walk this routeA beautiful walk encompassing the best of Exmoor. Stunning scenery across the moor, beside the river and through woods. Thoroughly enjoyable....

At the time of my walk and until December 2024 some of this walk is closed due to the construction of a new bridge. I have walked the original riverside walk to Tarr Steps and can vouch for it being a great walk for when it re-opens....

This section has some rough ground and is a bit boggy in places, but there is a clear path to the top. There is no path (not that I could see anyway) and the ground is very steep, very uneven, boggy in places and I did start to think I'd be breaking an ankle eventually and I was wondering how the ambulance was going to get me. After that however, there is a path for the rest of the walk, and the rest of the walk is brilliant. It's a tough path, but a clear path and far easier (in my opinion) than the alternative....

The route climbs out of Simonsbath through woodland, and then through Ashcombe Bottom the route can get a bit boggy, but there is a clear path. From Exe Head the path is always clear on the ground; it didn't match up exactly with the plotted route/official trail, but was close enough. After Cheriton the route approaches Lynmouth through steep woodland....

I walked from Simonsbath to Parracombe, purely because with no public transport I have to rely on a lift to Simonsbath, but it's the easiest way in terms of climbing. I really enjoyed the walk through Parracombe, a picturesque village, and the route ends by the pub, which is also the bus stop. There aren't any facilities on the route, and not many at Simonsbath or Parracombe either, but this IS Exmoor....

It wasn't the worst bog I've had to walk through, but it's another reason to avoid the horse field. Leaving Heasley Mill there is a steep climb over rough ground, probably the worst path on the route, and the reason it is a grade 4 route. The walk between North and South Molton through Holdridge Woods would normally be a highlight I think....

As per my review for Lynsim 1, this is a reasonably easy route to follow, except for the open moorland stretches where the path can get lost. It wouldn't suit a wheelchair user....

There's open moorland, which can be a little tricky to follow in poor visibility with only faint traces of path on the ground, but this is otherwise a straightforward route to follow as it matches the Two Moors Way which is signposted. It wouldn't be suitable for people using wheelchairs....

That said, even a significant deviation from the route isn't going to cause big problems, as the field boundary edge isn't far away and works as a good handrail to get to the correct corner....

WARNING: I've added an image for reference, and cows tend to get moved a lot anyway, but keep an eye out as you go through the 2nd to final gate before Wellshead Lane. I'd highly advise taking the gate on the right a couple 100 meters earlier which you'll have seen easily....

The Tramway has plenty of foraging opportunity if you know what you're doing. As you reach the peek of Exmoor, on a clear day, you can see Dartmoor all the way from where you walked. Then you head down a breathtaking valley into Simonsbath....

I walked from Simonsbath to Barnstaple and had reservations about the route, seeing that there was a lot of road walking. It's not long though until you get to a stretch of lane walking. I had to wait a while to get across, and then comes Grange Hill which is another stretch of road walking and leads into Bratton Fleming. Once you leave the road at Bratton the walk is off road for a long way. I enjoyed this walk, despite the road walking....

It starts with a fairly steep climb out of Dulverton in a shaded wooded area before crossing fields and moorland before a steep decent to Tarr Steps. The route departs the river for a while before rejoining it close to Cow Castle....

It is almost entirely off road accross open moorland and the descent into Lynmouth is something special (although a bit hard on the knees)....
