This route is similar to Abecri1, but with a couple of changes due to an access problem near Llwyn yr Eos Farm just outside Llangynidr and also a couple of minor changes on the canal path between Llangynidr and Dardy, effectively staying on the canal path instead of the road. On a clear day the view from the top of Tor y Foel must be amazing - it was a bit of a gloomy day for my walk, but still some great local vistas, such as the view down into the Usk Valley and Llangynidr (Photo 8). After Llangynidr, there is a long but easy stretch along the canal (Photo 10) all the way to Dardy, where the route leaves the canal and follows a lane into Llangattock and then up the streets into Crickhowell. On reaching the top of the ridge at Bryn Melyn, the track (Photo 6) is metalled until the start of the grassy path up Tor y Foel (Photo 7) which is open all the way over the top and down to the start of the farmland. There is a much better alternative though, as the waymarked footpath continues directly across the farm track and comes out on the canal towpath just outside Llangynidr....

Probably a 5-star walk on a clear day, but I happened to choose a day with limited visibility (contrary to the earlier weather forecast), it was a walk through the clouds on the mountain section. After the disused reservoir above Brynmawr, the path becomes a rocky mountain track all the way down to the road....

Coming from Brynmawr, I couldn't secure access from Clydach Dingle through the properties and onto the open access land behind the school....

Follow the route, look for cairns on the northern side of the hill, and you will be fine. Another route option could also go around the foot of the hill, avoiding a large amount of elevation....

Some people may not like these, but they make for easy walking and I only saw a couple of cars....

It`s easy walking all the way and the canal path is in good condition, although it can get a bit muddy in parts after wet weather. It`s also a good candidate for wheeling, although there are a couple of kissing gates in the field at Llangattock, which may not suit wheelchairs....

A lovely easy walk from Crickhowell, across fields, along a canal path and then a disused railway path / cycle track most of the way into Abergavenny....

Very accessible, although a bit bumpy in places because of tree routes pushing up through the path. Nice stretch along the canal too....

Straightforward walk along the old canal towpath, which is now a cycle- and foot-path. Very level and easy. Several locks, aquaducts and beer gardens along the route....

The route follows the Brecon Monmothshire Canal nearly all the way and cuts between the Brecon Beacons and Black Mountains. There are great views of the surrounding hills but the star is the canal, bridges and locks. Plenty of trees to provide shade and lots of wildlife to observe (e.g. herons)....

If starting from Abergavenny you go past the castle and meadows and then along a track uphill to the Brecon Monmothshire canal for most of the way to Crickhowell. This beautiful quiet section of the canal also has great views and for the most part accessible for buggies, wheelchairs and bikes - there can be the odd muddy puddle. Nice easy walk for peace and getting into nature....
