Description
This is a brilliant walk and a great way to get between Brynmawr and Crickhowell/Crughywel.
You can expect some brilliant views and thoroughly charming paths.
The path is not always distinct when crossing over the top of the hill. Stick to the route and you will be fine. After walking over the summit and when walking towards Crickhowell, look out for the cairns which start from about 490 metres.

Surveys
We are working to build-up a picture of what routes look like. To do that we are asking volunteers to survey routes so that we can communicate features, obstacles and challenges that may make a route desirable or not.
Slow Ways surveyors are asked to complete some basic online training, but they are not vetted. If you are dependent on the survey information being correct in order to complete a route, we recommend that you think critically about the information provided. You may also wish to wait until more than one survey has been completed.

06 Oct 2023October 2023. Direction: Crickhowell to Brynmawr.
Probably a 5-star walk on a clear day, but I happened to choose a day with limited visibility (contrary to the earlier weather forecast), it was a walk through the clouds on the mountain section. There`s a lovely green lane walk going up the hill from Legar, although the path is a bit rough and rocky in places. This route is not well signed after leaving the A4077 at Legar, but the path is clear and the styles and gates are in good order - that is until you get out on the open mountain, and then there is no clear path, so you need a map, especially when the visibility is low. After the disused reservoir above Brynmawr, the path becomes a rocky mountain track all the way down to the road. I do recall from previous walks there are stunning views across these valleys from this mountain on a clear day.

02 Jun 2022I loved walking this route! Incredible views across the Brecon Beacons and the old paths coming off the hills into Crickhowell are fabulous. There are lots of trees growing through stone walls that are falling apart and onto the often overgrown track... I enjoy this but, extending over a couple of miles, others will find hard to walk through.
The path goes over the top of Mynydd Llangatwg, a large hill. From 490m on either side, the path becomes indistinct. Follow the route, look for cairns on the northern side of the hill, and you will be fine.
There is about 10 metres of scrambling over rocks and boulders on this route.
On the day I walked this my feet stayed dry, but there are a few places where this route clearly becomes waterlogged for (short?) stetches.
Someone could design another route option that does not go over the summit and avoids the scrambling. Another route option could also go around the foot of the hill, avoiding a large amount of elevation.
I'd 110% walk this route again!.
