Help connect Yateley
Many Slow Ways have several route options. Some will be better than others, or good for different reasons.
Our goal is for each Slow Way to have at least one route that is verified and surveyed. To be verified – and get its snail badge – a route needs at least three positive reviews.
Give a hike and help get a for every one of Yateley’s Slow Ways.

Latest Updates
The route from Wokingham railway station leads initially along busy urban streets but turns to a somewhat hidden wide country lane after a bridge over the Emm Brook and before a roundabout. When you cross Wellington Avenue and walk up the Fisher's Copse, the route descends towards the Moor Green nature reserve....

The route has access issues as it goes through private land...

A short Slow Way that does a reasonable job of connecting Yateley and Sandhurst. The route is mainly a pavement walk beside busy roads. There is a respite in a central stretch of footpath between flooded gravel pits, now fishing lakes....
Martin Ellis
A well-planned Slow Way that avoids the many noisy roads of the area; for a quiet byway, woodland paths, and the Blackwater Valley Path. There is a short urban walk north to join the Blackwater Valley Path....
Martin Ellis
An excellent walk through a conifer plantation, followed by a stretch of the Blackwater Valley Path. The walk between Heckfield and the entrance to Bramshill Plantation includes the Bramshill Road....

This is probably the shortest route between Yateley and Sandhurst but 90% of it is alongside roads, some busy; with only one short section of footpath which runs between the fishing lakes in the river Blackwater valley near Bracknell Forest. There is no pavement on the road immediately at the Yateley end of the footpath, but there's relatively little traffic here. The road at the Sandhurst end of the footpath has a pavement, but it can be busy and noisy....

Graham Field added Haryat two, a new walk from Hartley Wintney to Yateley
Walk this routeIt then turns onto a pleasant road, but with no pavement; although not busy it is not very wide....
Pippa Walton
A lot of this route is off road and a pleasant walk across the army training grounds and passes by a couple of pubs. Crossing the A30 needs to be done with caution and the narrow path next to the Ely can be bypassed through the car park. The constriction north of the Cricketers could be a problem, and it would be great if this could be detoured....
Graham Field
A short route along pavements, some of which are narrow due to vegetation and a short stretch along quiet roads with a footpath between fenced fishing lakes where the vegetation has encroached upon the path in places. Walking alongside the Yately road was not pleasant and the fencing on each side of the footpath detracted from the walk....
Graham Field
There is no public right of way across Yately Heath Wood (see photo) and the path crosses a working quarry. An alternative route is required....

We walked this route today as far as Finchampstead where we turned down Heath Ride rather than go in to Simons Wood. At the point where you see woodcray / Garrick cottage make sure you take a right rather than going straight on or you will end up on a detour!...
