Help connect Hartley Wintney

Many Slow Ways have several route options. Some will be better than others, or good for different reasons.

Our goal is for each Slow Way to have at least one route that is verified and surveyed. To be verified – and get its snail badge – a route needs at least three positive reviews.

Give a hike and help get a for every one of Hartley Wintney’s Slow Ways.

Latest Updates

When the route reaches the end of a forest, it is again easy to follow and nice to walk along even though there were muddy spots at times. The route passes by a dilapidated stately home with an inscription "Felis demuncta mitis" (a stroked cat is gentle) in case we didn't know. When the route exits the garden centre and crosses the road, the turning is a bit concealed and earlier than the route on the map indicates....

Walking from the Hartley Wintney end, the turning off West Green Road onto the footpath is easy to miss as the sign is well hidden (see photograph with the galvanised gate in the foreground, the sign is above this)....

Frogspawn

Walk this route

This route is slightly longer than Hoohar one but passes through more varied countryside, is likely to be drier under foot (especially in wet conditions), and does not have a resident herd of cows....

Walk this route

A pleasant, mainly traffic free way of getting from Hook to Hartley Wintney. For approx 1st mile on OS path through fields the going is very difficult in places, mainly due to deep ruts caused by cattle. Extreme care is required....

Walk this route

Once on OS path (opposite Crooked Billet) the next km is poorly marked and difficult going due to soft, rutted ground caused by cattle - would be difficult when we and it gets VERY wet....

Walk this route

A lovely varied walk but note that there are several stiles and we encountered lots of cows when we walked it. Could be very muddy in wet weather, and was badly rutted in the fields at the Hook end of the walk, so not suitable for everyone. Took in part of King John’s Ride (see bench in pictures for details)....
