Help connect Fleet

Many Slow Ways have several route options. Some will be better than others, or good for different reasons.

Our goal is for each Slow Way to have at least one route that is verified and surveyed. To be verified – and get its snail badge – a route needs at least three positive reviews.

Give a hike and help get a for every one of Fleet’s Slow Ways.

Latest Updates

As already mentioned in a previous review, long sections of this route at each end lead through urban areas along busy roads, esp. I found the most tricky bit when I was to cross Minley Road roughly in the middle of the route....

There is also road walking along Pale Lane, Bagwell Lane and Station Road which are not particularly safe....

Some of the route is very pretty (it traverses some beautiful woodland and fields), however, many of the paths were overgrown and almost impassable....

Route with some pleasant walking along the baskingstoke canal and Southwood woodland. There is a lot of walking beside roads....

The route crosses army training grounds but no army personnel were observed, and there were no signs of any closures or warnings of any regular closures. The routes heads west of Tweseldown, but many other routes across the army training grounds exist....

Walk this route

Generally a pleasant walk taking in both Fleet Pond and Hawley Lake with some obstacles crossing and walking alongside the busy Fleet Road and accessing Minley Road and there is some road walking but on generally quiet roads. There are pedestrian crossing facilities across the busy A30. I would walk this route again....

Walk this route

This route contains stiles, gates, kissing gates, over grown sections, flights of wooden steps cut into the slope, walking alongside dangerous roads, crossing planks and muddy sections. The route requires a detour to avoid private land. It was nice to explore somewhere new, but I would not walk this route again....

Walk this route

This route has a mixture of walking through the pleasant army training grounds and the less pleasurable pavements walking alongside roads, but do offer a good walking surface. Crossing the A30 did prove to be a challenge due to the volume of traffic and lack of a crossing point near the A30\B3272...

Walk this route

A lot of this route is off road and a pleasant walk across the army training grounds and passes by a couple of pubs. Crossing the A30 needs to be done with caution and the narrow path next to the Ely can be bypassed through the car park. The constriction north of the Cricketers could be a problem, and it would be great if this could be detoured....

Walk this route

This route crosses the Long Valley high speed vehicle training area and is subject to frequent closures, and follows little used tracks across boggy ground. An alternative route would possibly provide more enjoyment, although possibly longer. It is not a route I would choose to walk again....

Nice route maximising the off road journey by using the Basingstoke canal, the towpath route is level and compacted. The route was walked following a day of rain so there were puddles and some mud. Roadside pavements across the route were good although there was one crossing with two kerbs with no drop/ramp....
