Help connect Worthing
Many Slow Ways have several route options. Some will be better than others, or good for different reasons.
Our goal is for each Slow Way to have at least one route that is verified and surveyed. To be verified – and get its snail badge – a route needs at least three positive reviews.
Give a hike and help get a for every one of Worthing’s Slow Ways.

Linked at both ends by train and bus stations with connections to Brighton and London. Possible to stay off the pebble beach if needed along the residential streets. Two sauna have opened on the beaches for summer if you had time to stop!...

We really enjoyed this route which we used to connect our home in Worthing to family in Steyning so did not follow the exact route so we could walk from our house to theirs. The main part up over the Downs was easy to follow, lovely to walk and had beautiful views. We had a moment of indecision as to which way to go as the Public Footpath leading from Lyons Way around the back of some buildings had been obscured by some very large piles of tarmac rubble but we were still able to walk round the side to find where we needed to go....

Heading south where the path is closed adds km's to your journey, but will have you joining back up with the route the other side of the blockage. The only other small blockage we found was crossing the road at the roundabout on the A259, although works there were all but done, and we found our way across by a slightly alternative route easily enough....

Some small deviations onto residential streets (one unnecessary on Ferring Beach) before hitting Littlehampton proper....

I walked this route as the second leg of a Storrington to Worthing trek via Findon....

As a local I took advantage of some quieter roads and a nice park etc that took me back onto the seafront....

From a running point of view a good runnable route that avoids the main, busier paths....

This route is currently (20-06-2022) blocked along the lane between Lyminster and Poling at the Lyminster end. However in the long-term this will probably be the best walking route between Arundel and Worthing....
Bostal Boy
The route starts with a steep climb up from Charlton Street to Steyning Coombe and Horseshoe Wood to get to the top of the Downs. From the five ways junction at the top of the Downs it is all wide bridle paths on farm tracks down to Worthing....
Bostal Boy
Lovely route, especially on a nice and sunny day! There is a wide footpath and also cycle path, only issue I found really is lack of toilets along the route as it's probably a mile from the Dome until the next public toilets which is unfortunate, otherwise a great route for everybody :)...
Gemma Wilburn
Worth going a little further to see the quirky houseboats along the river Adur adjacent to sea at Shoreham!...
Saira
I really enjoyed this route, especially the views across the South Downs....

Steyning is a charming delight (well worth a stay over) and Worthing made a good destination too, with lots of good places to eat and enjoy the sea....

I'd suggest using Patterson's Walk along the top of Ferring Beach, rather than the traced residential streets around South Drive....

Most of this part was wheel friendly and fully accessible however on occasion it strayed on to the pebbly beach, but, you could easily go a little in land on to grass/park land or the pavement by the road without going far at all from the mapped route. Whilst the verge is wise, there is a cycle/foot path on the other side of the road and a safer crossing point which I would recommend the route is changed to. The route suggests going down a footpath down the side of the school....

The Slow Way is shared with National Cycle Network route 2, and is a popular bike path....
Bostal Boy
The route is very near to a busy road for about 15-20 minutes between the East side of Worthing and Lancing....

I walked from Worthing (West Tarring) to Findon and the walk becomes much more enjoyable once past the A27. The route is not always clearly marked, hopefully the photos will help....

I would recommend taking the footpath on to the beach though at the Shoreham end, it is a special surface which is wheel friendly with passing points which i hope you can see from my photos...

However, where it goes down into Steyning (on a footpath from the South Downs Way) the track does become rough & steep in places....
