05 Apr 2023Pleasant, almost entirely flat and straight route.
Some muddy and pebbled parts along the way, but only briefly.
Some small deviations onto residential streets (one unnecessary on Ferring Beach) before hitting Littlehampton proper.

20 Nov 2021A straightforward route along the coast mostly along greensward grass or surfaced promenades. Popular with dog walkers and footpath only so no cyclists along most of the way. It is flat and straight with a couple of deviations onto residential streets where properties reach right down to the beach. I'd suggest using Patterson's Walk along the top of Ferring Beach, rather than the traced residential streets around South Drive.
There are some short sections across pebbles, the occasional café and public convenience (but not as many as you'd expect on an 8 mile walk along a built up area. One toilet block at Goring Greensward was shut for the winter.
The walk is largely accessible and easily followed, however it is not the most engaging section of the coastline. The sea view is often screened by tamarisk hedges and much of the route skirts the back gardens of seaside villas. Goring Gap offers a glimpse of what the West Sussex coast may have looked like before the uncontrolled development which followed the First World War.
