Help connect Strathblane

Many Slow Ways have several route options. Some will be better than others, or good for different reasons.

Our goal is for each Slow Way to have at least one route that is verified and surveyed. To be verified – and get its snail badge – a route needs at least three positive reviews.

Give a hike and help get a for every one of Strathblane’s Slow Ways.

Latest Updates

The first third of the route is on quiet country roads and mostly follows the National cycle route 7. The next and longest section makes use of the John Muir's way. As the route approaches Strathblane, it veers off John Muir's way at one point - it is shown on the seventh photograph where you can see a small sign "campsite & cafe 500yards"....

Where the WHW leaves the road and goes across a field in an uphill diversion from the road just before Drymen, I regretted this and wished I had stayed on the road....

Unfortunately, within half a kilometre of setting off, I found the way blocked by a high fence and locked gate (see photographs). I managed to find a work-around quite easily and have incorporated this into an alternative route (Strmil two)....

Enjoyable walk, excellent views over towards the Campsie Hills as you enter Strathblane. Start of route at Old Kilpatrick can be a little confusing....

Walk this route

A further (longer) detour beyond the farmland allowed me to pick up a forestry track which eventually linked up with the continuation of the mapped route just beyond the original cattle field. This is a fairly straightforward route (although a bit muddy in places after a night of heavy rain) but the cattle field presents an insurmountable barrier to access and I am therefore unable to recommend it...

Easy, metalled path along the old railway route....

Walk this route

This route goes through a field which often contains cows, bulls and calves. It is difficult to navigate through the field and I have lost the path on numerous occasions. This is not the route I would take to Milngavie....
