Latest Updates
Taking a left from the village cross, the route took us along the main road until we reached Valleyfield, where a path leads down to the Glazert river and the Strathkelvin Railway Path. The route along the railway path continues for a mile or so, crossing a main road but with no obstructions, the quality of this part of the path is excellent and it continues on to Lennoxtown where there are local shops and services. From here the Mil-Mil route follows a road locally known as "the Staney Brae" or "Roun the Moon" the first part of this section of path is a good walking surface of compacted hardcore used for access to local small holdings. It links to Station Road, a single track tarmac road used for access to local farms and the Lennox Forest. The forestry paths continue for miles but the Mil-Mil Route suggests taking a left (East 259858 North 676664) this is on old path once used to access lime kilns but the path is overgrown, there are bushes obstructing access, fallen trees and boggy areas where the water was over three inches deep and we were sinking further into the bog. This path runs almost parallel to the lime kiln path mapped on the Mil-Mil route and joins the Mil-Mil Route slightly further down. The next section of the Mil-Mil route is compacted hardcore designed for vehicle access for local farms and small holdings....

Review of Slow Ways Route Strmil two (Strathblane to Milton of Campsie)....

Unfortunately, within half a kilometre of setting off, I found the way blocked by a high fence and locked gate (see photographs). I managed to find a work-around quite easily and have incorporated this into an alternative route (Strmil two)....

Walk this routeThe cut through between the cycle track and the short section of the Forth and Clyde Canal at Kirkintilloch was slightly fiddly, but there were no stiles or steps, and while I can’t speak for wheelchair users, I’d be happy to do this route pushing a baby buggy! Some time after it was built, the railway line was inserted vertically between the canal and the river...

It is an extremely straightforward route, following first the Forth and Clyde Canal towpath, then a short section of the Thomas Muir trail and finally (after the only significant road crossing required) the footpath/cycleway along the bed of the old Campsie Line railway track....

This is a great piece of infrastructure which can be joined up with the Firth & Clyde canal path at Kirkintiloch...

A flat, tarmaced route close to the river and traffic free. Ramp access at both ends. Some tree roots have protruded near Kirkintilloch....
