I completed this walk yesterday travelling eastwards from Winchcombe. The benefit of doing the walk in this direction I would say is getting the longest ascent on the climb out of Winchcombe out of the way early in the walk....

The short section between Stratford Bridge and the railway crossing (photo 3) was very waterlogged when I did the walk, but I just about managed to pick a dry-ish route through. The actual mapped route here takes you along the road between these points, but I definitely recommend the footpath to/from the car park. After the car park you have to re-join the road for a short section of road walking to get to the cattle grid at the top. The footpath does continue up to the summit of the hill and Chastleton Barrow, but unfortunately this route turns off the footpath to join the road again. It's this detour along the road that made me consider dropping the route to 4 stars, but that would be harsh, particularly as the road walking is relatively pleasant and quiet (photo 12). After crossing the A436, the route takes you through Cornwell Holt woodland to agricultural land above the village....

The Route is best followed on the left side of the road going towards Moreton, walking on the grass verge, where you reach a lay-by. The route comes to Donnington where it is again difficult to follow the correct path as a few meet here....
Charles Hutchinson
Need to be careful in Donnington not to miss the Monarch’s way footpath as several cross here. There are multiple styles to cross and some narrow footbridges. good views across the Evenlode valley....

dbbe101 added Stomor three, a new walk from Stow-on-the-Wold to Moreton-in-Marsh
Walk this routeOnly did first 5th of this route, but at the very beginning (starting from Moreton in Marsh), there is a more pleasant route through Queen Victoria Gardens which avoids going on road with no pavement. Only possible for those able to get down stairs, however. Would like to return and complete this walk when time allows....

A very good Slow Ways route across fields and lanes through great countryside. The route from Aston Magana to Todenham across fields is not marked clearly so will need good use of the map round these. Only shops are at the start and finish and no pubs on route....
Nigel Cull
Easy to navigate, mostly follows the Monarch's Way which is well-signposted. Some hills but nothing you wouldn't expect on a walk in the Cotswolds....
