Help connect Broadway
Many Slow Ways have several route options. Some will be better than others, or good for different reasons.
Our goal is for each Slow Way to have at least one route that is verified and surveyed. To be verified – and get its snail badge – a route needs at least three positive reviews.
Give a hike and help get a for every one of Broadway’s Slow Ways.

Uses the Cotswold Way (a well trodden route) and The Mile Drive to Chipping Campden....

There were a couple of really boggy points just past Foxhill Arms and at the bottom of Dover's Hill....

Walk this routeOne added benefit is that you can use the heritage Gloucestershire & Warwickshire Railway to use as transport to the start or from the end point, in fact on several occasions I caught sight of the steam train as the railway runs parallel with the walk. The route also passes by Stanway House (limited opening days in Summer) which hosts the biggest gravity fed fountain in the world, and the remains of Hailes Abbey, a scheduled monument managed by English Heritage and had lots of visitors when I walked past....

Excellent route through countryside which is well signposted since it mostly follows the Cotswold Way, but makes short cuts to skip some of the crazy loops of the National Trail! The villages on the route are absolutely gorgeous and for me they typify the beauty of the Cotswolds much more than the touristy towns at each end. A stop in Stanton is definitely recommended - up the hill to the Mount Inn if you need refreshments!...

Immediately when leaving Chipping Campden, the walker faces the steepest and longest incline of the route on the ascent up to Dover's Hill. It's on this ascent that I believe the route given here has missed a trick or two. 300m before taking the most direct route (photo 1) to the summit of Dover's Hill (photo 2). I humbly suggest walkers take this first footpath to the right to reach the escarpment of Dover's Hill, and then follow the ridge to the marked summit and rejoin the route....

5hrs including a 30min stop at The Mount Inn, in Stanton for refreshments. A few steep inclines to deal with around Hailes & Buckland but nothing too difficult....

Both trails are regularly painted by the Cotswold Voluntary Wardens....

This route includes passing along Wickhamford Lane. It is Not designated as a Public Right of Way, although there are good reasons as to why it should be. Its on the Ramblers list of Lost Ways....

Be aware there’s a new housing estate being built on the outskirts of Chipping Campden currently (May 2021) so you can’t get through a small section on the current map - but it’s only a small detour!...

A few small parts where the map didn’t quite match the actual path’s route but it was easy to connect it all up....
