Surveys
We are working to build-up a picture of what routes look like. To do that we are asking volunteers to survey routes so that we can communicate features, obstacles and challenges that may make a route desirable or not.
Slow Ways surveyors are asked to complete some basic online training, but they are not vetted. If you are dependent on the survey information being correct in order to complete a route, we recommend that you think critically about the information provided. You may also wish to wait until more than one survey has been completed.

28 Oct 2024I completed this walk yesterday travelling eastwards from Winchcombe. A really enjoyable walk which your legs will feel after 15 miles through the undulating Cotswold landscape. There are pub stops available in Ford and Longborough both serving food at specific times.
The 'worst' part of the walk is arguably where the route takes you on some road walking, in particular the mile long lane past Pinnock Wood Farm and a very brief short section downhill on the approach into Ford. Having called those sections the worst, they are still part of the Gloucestershire Way LDP and given the small amount of vehicles which you have to give way to, I think it would seem harsh to mark it down a star.
It was also disappointing to see finely shredded plastic used as the track material for racehorses to train on at The Gallops training ground. I'm not sure if that's the normal material, but surely it can't be good for the environment having all those fine plastic particles leaching into the soil?
Having mentioned the worst bits, the best bits were the great views across the landscape that the varied walk has to offer. We were really lucky with the weather but the highlight for me and mainly due to the season were the peak Autumn colours, especially through Pig Trough on the Bourton Hill plantation.
The villages are proper picture postcard stuff with local stone cottages and fine architecture. We stopped at the Coach and Horses in Longborough which was very busy at 3pm on a Sunday serving roasts.
The route was well maintained, and has all the stiles, gates and footbridges to negotiate as you would expect on the footpath network. The benefit of doing the walk in this direction I would say is getting the longest ascent on the climb out of Winchcombe out of the way early in the walk. I can definitely recommended the route and would do it again.
