Help connect Monument
Many Slow Ways have several route options. Some will be better than others, or good for different reasons.
Our goal is for each Slow Way to have at least one route that is verified and surveyed. To be verified – and get its snail badge – a route needs at least three positive reviews.
Give a hike and help get a for every one of Monument’s Slow Ways.

A straight forward walk across the bridge, as others have said it's busy but some good views across the river...
Dan Barron
Views across the Thames of the South Bank, Oxo Tower, Tate Modern, Globe, Shard and more still give it the wow factor night or day. It makes this route even easier to navigate as you don't have to make the detour onto noisy Upper Thames St....

I walked from Monument to London Bridge Station....
Strider
On exiting the station it is a little difficult to orientate yourself and find the node at the correct exit. But from there it is a quick, easy and very pleasant walk through interesting quiet back streets to the Monument which you can see over the rooftops before you arrive. I used the subway (with steps) to cross a busy junction near Monument, but it can be crossed at road level....
Strider
Straightforward route crossing the Thames over London Bridge with lots of central London's landmark buildings and the Monument to the great fire of London In view along the way....

Lovely route, passing London Bridge, St Paul's Cathedral and Paternoster Square. We ran this course as a group at night (Monday evening from 7pm). All well lit, but we did find that Warwick Passage and Lincoln's Inn Fields were both closed up....
Simon Fitzmaurice
Between Blackfriars and Victoria Embankment Gardens the Thames Path is next to a pretty busy road, but for me this was mitigated by the very generous and thus relatively uncrowded pavements (unlike other possible routes), yet more views over the Thames, and by moving to the Thames side of the road where there is a little more breeze to lift the fumes away....
Daisy C
Clear mapping and an obvious route to take on the ground, full points for navigation. Great views from the bridge too. I walked north from L Bridge to Monument....

Very easy, nice views but along a busy road...

Absolutely lovely little stroll down some quiet streets....

Some of the streets on the Monument end felt a bit unwelcoming (I kept thinking, “man, is this right?” and it doesn’t help that gps doesn’t always work when surrounded by tall buildings!) but lo and behold they were always right....

The only problem I came across was that Warwick Passage, which is the route under the Old Bailey, was closed off with a locked gate and there was no sign to indicate what hours it is open....

Walk this routeThis is a great route, I'm just concerned about the accuracy of the plotting around London Bridge. I've uploaded an alternative that is more accurate....

It's not really clear from the route map, but when walking direction Holborn ---> Monument, at Farringdon Street the route turns left up a flight of stairs to a higher level traffic free area....

In addition, this should also be an easy access, no steps, route; but the detour for sewer construction at Blackfriars includes a long flight of steps (photo), alongside an out of service lift....

Direct and easy to follow along quieter city streets, this route won't take more than 15 minutes unless you get wildly distracted (which is easy)....

It's generally straightforward and signed, but hopefully this route is plotted accurately enough that navigating should be simplified!...

Walk this routeThis is a good route, but the Thames Path (which this route largely follows along the river) doesn't stick purely to the river, as this route says it does. It actually winds in and out a couple times, so this route is too inaccurate to follow faithfully. I've uploaded a Charmon two that addresses this issue....
mtormey
This is a great route, largely following the Thames River, but there are two points where the route as plotted is inaccurate. The first is coming off the London Bridge onto the southern bank, and the second is leaving the riverside to approach London Waterloo. As plotted, this route doesn't work!...
mtormey
Apart from the short stretch along Eastcheap there is no walking along busy roads and much of the route follows waterways....
porcovolente
A short walk, with a lovely view of Tower Bridge from London Bridge. It's easy to walk, although going up and down the bridge has a little bit of an incline....
Derick Rethans
It was a little hard to navigate with GPS due to the tall buildings so I didn't *quite* manage to do the exact route. It's paved all the way, although there is quite a lot of construction going on, which makes it sometimes hard to find dropped kerbs....
Derick Rethans
You're in busy Central London, so it's busy and vibrant the whole time! The area around LSE is under construction so navigating the pavement was a bit tricky, but no major diversions were required....

A great walk that included lovely riverside paths and vibrant central London adventuring!...

Parts could maybe make more of the Thames Path, but it's otherwise a great way to get between Monument and Canary Wharf....

This short city-centre route provides some spectacular views of London's riverscape, as well as the opportunity to interact with smaller pieces of history. I haven't uploaded any photos as it's hard to do this route justice. Highly recommended....
Martin McGovern
This is a short city-centre route along larger streets. It's reasonably direct, and provides pleasant views of a number of London landmarks - the Monument and St Paul's Cathedral being the most obvious. Because the streets are larger, access is generally easier, with dropped kerbs ubiquitous....

Once over the bridge going south, there are multiple ways to get to the Shard, with the smoothest being up Railway Approach, rather than Duke Street Hill which the physical route implies....
Martin McGovern
The other way (crossing King William Street and Cannon Street) lacks a dropped kerb at King William Street - though of course the current building work may change that....

As with nearby routes Charing Cross to Monument, and London Bridge to Monument, this short route provides spectacular views of the riverscape....
