Connect Masham with Slow Ways
We’re creating a network of walking routes that connect all of Britain’s towns, cities and national parks
more walks and reviews are needed to fully connect Masham to the verified network. Can you give a hike and help?
Give a hike!Help connect Masham
Many Slow Ways have several route options. Some will be better than others, or good for different reasons.
Our goal is for each Slow Way to have at least one route that is verified and surveyed. To be verified – and get its snail badge – a route needs at least three positive reviews.
Give a hike and help get a for every one of Masham’s Slow Ways.

Beautiful walk through farmland and easy to follow the trail....
Robert Pearson
A lovely walk through farmland, easy to follow although a bit over grown in sections in summer...
Milo
we headed on a path through the farm and across a field with lots of sheep, there was some slightly tricky farmland to cross due to crops being there and quite overgrown so that was a slight issue....
Robert Pearson
Small amounts of bush washing as the trail was slightly over grown at points....
Clem
Beautiful countryside and views however difficult to follow the underused footpaths that were quite over grown in mid summer. Halfway is an ice cream factory that makes a great break. 3 stars because although it is very beautiful the path is not easily accessible so perhaps not appropriate for those that are less able bodied...
Milo
A good route but adding to the initial review, the main wood path through Ellington Firth was impassable when walked on this occasion due to flooding so an alternative suggestion (continuing south to Stark Bank Road then east along until the route is rejoined) has been suggested. The rest of the route is good and easy to follow, with very pretty views and scenery along the river Ure, and good stops (although the tea room at Jervaulx is closed, it makes a great picnic spot). Unsuitable for wheeled travelling....
Sarah
Great views, good pub at West Tanfield, very little road walking....
Tim Ryan
Not very well signed at Middleham, turn left just before the closed gate in front of you....
Sandra Blyton
Mainly well signed, some footpaths in Hackness Woods paths aren't in very good condition but can be avoided by using the estate maintained footpaths which will eventually bring you out in the right place. 1 awkward ditch (see photo 1)just before going up good steps about 1.5 miles from Masham. Pub and shop at West Tanfield....
