Help connect Middleham

Many Slow Ways have several route options. Some will be better than others, or good for different reasons.

Our goal is for each Slow Way to have at least one route that is verified and surveyed. To be verified – and get its snail badge – a route needs at least three positive reviews.

Give a hike and help get a for every one of Middleham’s Slow Ways.

Latest Updates

A good route but adding to the initial review, the main wood path through Ellington Firth was impassable when walked on this occasion due to flooding so an alternative suggestion (continuing south to Stark Bank Road then east along until the route is rejoined) has been suggested. The rest of the route is good and easy to follow, with very pretty views and scenery along the river Ure, and good stops (although the tea room at Jervaulx is closed, it makes a great picnic spot). Unsuitable for wheeled travelling....

Walk this route

It does however require walking alongside the busy A6108 for about 1k, where there is no pavement, and any grass verges are narrow....

Tim Ryan

Walk this route

A much longer route than Leymid1, by almost a mile to avoid 300 metres of roadside walking along the busy A6108, with no verges or pavement....

Walk this route

Not very well signed at Middleham, turn left just before the closed gate in front of you....

Unfortunately a stretch on the road without walkways is necessary due to need to cross the River Ure at Middleham Bridge. The road is busy with no verges....
