Help connect Dartmouth
Many Slow Ways have several route options. Some will be better than others, or good for different reasons.
Our goal is for each Slow Way to have at least one route that is verified and surveyed. To be verified – and get its snail badge – a route needs at least three positive reviews.
Give a hike and help get a for every one of Dartmouth’s Slow Ways.

The slow way follows a variety of field paths, holloways & quiet country lanes. The only major road encountered was the A3122, which the route crosses then follows the wide verge for a very short distance near Totnes Cross, & again crosses near Collaton Cross. Otherwise the road sections are on very quiet country lanes until into Dartmouth itself. The route continues along quiet lanes (one short footpath cutting off a corner through a meadow at Capton Cross)....

There are some short steep climbs on this walk, but the views make it worthwhile. I love the ferry and steam trains at Kingswear. I agree that another route that follows the coast path would be a great addition....

It's easy to follow and the views across the Dart are brilliant....

Walk this routeThis is a truly beautiful route with great views and good number of places to stop for refreshments on the way. You can expect some steep hills, but it was dry when we walked it and didn't have any issues with mud. It could be a little better drawn in Totnes around St Peter's Quay, but it's easy enough to work out....

Lovely villages of Slapton and Strete provide refreshment opportunities as do kiosks at Strete Gate and Blackpool Sands. Short section of walking along the A379 at Strete but in a 20mph zone and one crossing of the A379 between Strete and Blackpool Sands but good visibility. Route was a little unclear approaching Blackpool Sands from Widewell - the slow way follows a recorded footpath rather than the swcp at that point but the latter is more obvious and waymarked....

East Allington and Blackawton both have good refreshment opportunities (pub and shop), which are very handy on a long walk. There is a good network of rights of way that could offer a more direct route, but only by missing out Blackawton so I haven’t suggested an alternative....

From 2.5 miles you are in the village of Ashprington and now have to walk along lanes with traffic for approximately 1.2miles. And follow the track behind the houses, not along the the left up the steps with a foot path sign. At 4.2 miles turn left and join the toad through Cornworthy. At 4.7 miles cross the main road and head toward Broadgates on the lane straight ahead. At 5.5 miles you join a lane heading left heading into Dittisham. At 7.7 miles your turn left back onto a lane....
