Surveys
We are working to build-up a picture of what routes look like. To do that we are asking volunteers to survey routes so that we can communicate features, obstacles and challenges that may make a route desirable or not.
Slow Ways surveyors are asked to complete some basic online training, but they are not vetted. If you are dependent on the survey information being correct in order to complete a route, we recommend that you think critically about the information provided. You may also wish to wait until more than one survey has been completed.
Help people know more about this route by volunteering to submit a survey.

17 Jun 2023One of my favourite Slow Ways. This is a truly beautiful route with great views and good number of places to stop for refreshments on the way.
You can expect some steep hills, but it was dry when we walked it and didn't have any issues with mud.
It could be a little better drawn in Totnes around St Peter's Quay, but it's easy enough to work out.

21 Feb 2022Walked this route on Thursday 17-Feb-2022. Still winter but the weather clear and dry for change. This entire route is pretty muddy, steep and slippery at times. Loads of steep grass and hillside to cover. Not one for anyone who is not comfortable is these types of conditions. My walk was winter but Devon is wet year round. Around 20%+ of the route is on lanes, but with minimal traffice.
Starts near main bus stop in the centre of Totnes between Morrison’s and the 7 Stars pub. Flat and paved for the first 0.5 miles. Slight incline, steps up and then onto a dirt path along the river.
From 2.5 miles you are in the village of Ashprington and now have to walk along lanes with traffic for approximately 1.2miles
At 3.2 miles stepping stones at low tide or you will have to go around via the road on the bridge. This needs updating on the route.
At 3.7 mile turn left across Bow Creek bridge. And follow the track behind the houses, not along the the left up the steps with a foot path sign.
At 4.2 miles turn left and join the toad through Cornworthy. Watch for traffic for 0.5 miles.
At 4.7 miles cross the main road and head toward Broadgates on the lane straight ahead.
At 5.2 miles the track is a stream when there is / has been heavy rains.
At 5.3 miles you cross a lovel small stone bridge across x stream. In Feb look for the snow drops.
At 5.5 miles you join a lane heading left heading into Dittisham.
After Dittisham at 7.2 miles you leave the lanes back onto the Dart Valley Trail.
As you climb up. Look north to see views of Tor Bay
At 7.7 miles your turn left back onto a lane. Nearly at the highest point of the walk.
Look behind you, west, to see Dartmoor on a clear day.
8.2 mile head slight right off the lane onto a footpath
Cox Walk in Dartmouth hard to find. Covered in scaffolding in Feb 2022.
