Help connect Darlaston
Many Slow Ways have several route options. Some will be better than others, or good for different reasons.
Our goal is for each Slow Way to have at least one route that is verified and surveyed. To be verified – and get its snail badge – a route needs at least three positive reviews.
Give a hike and help get a for every one of Darlaston’s Slow Ways.

Latest Updates
Happy to go for a direct route as this was my final Slow Way of the day. Functional is the best description so I’ll leave it at that....
Ken
Not much to add to the reviews already here, apart from there was sadly a bit of fly tipping around when I did the walk, but it generally felt safe and it tries to avoid the main roads and uses cut-throughs/alleyways where possible. Can still be recommended....
Steve Litchfield
Steps down from the canal onto Bentley Mill Way, and then along Kendricks Road and across the Flatts which was pretty muddy when I did the walk....
Steve Litchfield
At 1.55 miles, it's amongst the shorter of slow ways, and actually I think is probably it's saving grace as it doesn't offer much in the way of inspiration....
Steve Litchfield
I completed this walk yesterday travelling east from Bilston....
Steve Litchfield
Urban walk all on tarmac, safe road crossings. From the bus station at Darlaston this route starts with a crossing of the main road but soon enters a quiet street which leads into a wide surfaced footpath at Sydney Cottages then along the back of houses....
Ken
Dropping back down no help to cross the next road but no issue then it's straight along a quiet road which has the advantage of open space over the fence and a strip of grass to add distance from any traffic....
Ken
Once on the canal the rest of the walk is easy and pleasant (at one point I passed a tame heron which flew past and settled about 10 feet behind me), on a tarmac path that leads us directly to the Walsall Basin....
Hugh Hudson
We then go down residential streets past the two churches, cross Manor House Road and head up Old Park Road....
Hugh Hudson
The most interesting and remarkable section is The Black Country Sculpture Route which runs away from but parallel to the A463....
David Sanderson
Care is needed walking along Kendricks Road and crossing Heath Road....
Paul McGill
After leaving Bilston and passing the football ground, the route follow the black country route for a while (on a parallel footpath) and then turns toward Darlaston and passes George Rose Park before taking a footpath enclosed by houses on both sides. At the top of this path its just a short walk into Darlaston town centre. The walk is suitable for all weathers and both towns have plenty of places for refreshments and have particularly interesting older parts....
Paul McGill
Leading from the meeting point by the Asda bus stop, the crossing of the car park is swift to King Street, the main shopping street in Darlaston. The walk along the canal at first, offers views over to Wednesbury and you soon pass under the M6. Having left the canal the walk along Park Street is decidedly less flash but there are options for stops and shops along with direct access to both railway and bus stations....
David Sanderson
I was reminded at the weekend about the need to include interesting places on a Slow Way of you can, so sending it past St Bartholemew's Church and through the churchyard was a mark of genius....

David Sanderson added Darwed two, a new walk from Darlaston to Wednesbury
Walk this routeMy preference is for the Wednesbury end but that is because, it turns out, that the Darlaston meeting place is in a slightly strange spot and the route bypasses or doesn't reach Darlaston's best features....
David Sanderson
The footpath at SO 9726 9846 is fenced at one end and as a consequence, overgrown at the other. An alternative can be taken at SO 9722 9845. Wildar three is a walkable version of this route....
David Sanderson
At Rough Hay it turns into a residential street which makes for quieter pavements and this takes you all the way to the meeting point by the bus stops outside Asda....

David Sanderson added Wildar three, a new walk from Willenhall to Darlaston
Walk this routeI walked this route as "Wildar one" from Darlaston to Willenhall before following Wildar two back, so there was a comparison to be made immediately. The plus point of this route is that it includes Kings Street, the focal point of Darlaston, which has a couple of interesting shops. The rest of the walk is along residential Birmingham Street and then along the very busy, Walsall Street....
