Latest Updates
It's a decent route which avoids a bit of road walking by utilising an old dismantled railway....

After reading David's review, I considered making a new and more direct Wilblo three with minor tweaks, mainly to avoid the busy Clarke's Lane and Walsall Road sections at the Willenhall end. This route is ok, taking you out of Bloxwich you cross the railway via the big green bridge (photo 1) before a bit more road walking until you get to the Wyrley and Essington canal....

A great route which benefits hugely from the excellent Robin Hood free house pub, and a good section of quiet canal towpath walking. As previously mentioned, there are shallow steps down to the canal but apart from that would be step free and accessible to most. Can certainly be recommended....

At 1.55 miles, it's amongst the shorter of slow ways, and actually I think is probably it's saving grace as it doesn't offer much in the way of inspiration....
Steve Litchfield
At 1.77 miles, it's amongst the shorter slow ways available....

First the canal, then pavement walking through the 'burbs , then through the fields at Moseley Village (which was not quite what I was expecting), then zigzagging through a housing estate, then through the lovely Willenhall Memorial Park before finally zigzagging again through the retail units and shops and into Willenhall....

Another cracking Slow Way, pavements and a good dose of excellent canal towpath ending at Walsall basin and a walk along the main shopping street. I continued my tour of four Slow Ways from Willenhall and was eager to get onto the canal instead of street walking, the approach is fine with pavements, safe road crossing and made even better by the surprise of the Black Country Ale House, no I hadn't read David's review....

I'm not sure I took the correct path to cross the major road below, there is a well used path across the middle but there may also be pavements around the edge, the plot is no help. Turning off it's still a pavement alongside a road that crosses the railway at the site of Willenhall station under construction....
Ken
Safe, direct, easy to follow and remarkably offroad....

David Sanderson added Wedwil two, a new walk from Wednesfield to Willenhall
Walk this routeThe greenspace beyond, of Moseley Village (it's maybe too wild to describe as a park) might get muddy at times. Is the Moseley Village greenspace too wild for some tastes?...

David Sanderson added Wolvwil two, a new walk from Wolverhampton to Willenhall
Walk this routeCan't comment on the overall concept of the walk but I know that the Wolverhampton end is incorrect, as are all the original Slow Ways connecting Wolverhampton via the canal. You simply can not access the meeting place in the way depicted. The more direct Wolvwil two fixes this but differs as a route from this one...

Mostly very safe, but the crossing of the roundabout over the Keyway could be a challenge at busy times....
David Sanderson
It is easy to follow with the first section along the canal and then afterwards through residential, light industrial until entering Willenhall....

The route I actually walked is reviewed as Wilwal two...

The footpath at SO 9726 9846 is fenced at one end and as a consequence, overgrown at the other. An alternative can be taken at SO 9722 9845. Wildar three is a walkable version of this route....

At Rough Hay it turns into a residential street which makes for quieter pavements and this takes you all the way to the meeting point by the bus stops outside Asda....

David Sanderson added Wildar three, a new walk from Willenhall to Darlaston
Walk this routeI walked this route as "Wildar one" from Darlaston to Willenhall before following Wildar two back, so there was a comparison to be made immediately. The plus point of this route is that it includes Kings Street, the focal point of Darlaston, which has a couple of interesting shops. The rest of the walk is along residential Birmingham Street and then along the very busy, Walsall Street....
David Sanderson
A good fundamental design but comes a cropper at SJ 9805 0008 where there is no option to follow the path indicated. Also at SJ 9842 0025 the Monarch's Way can not be accessed and despite having searched for the path from the road and within the park itself, it would appear to have been diverted. A version of this walk with alterations to fix these problems can be found in Wilblo Two...
David Sanderson
Starting following the Walsall Road, I had wondered whether it would have been better to follow a more direct line via the residential streets and then industrial estate to meet up with A462 but stuck with the plan. There is a bit of pavement to follow along a lane and then a short walk past industrial units before you come to an unusual looking railway bridge to take you into Bloxwich....

A thoroughly enjoyable walk along the Walsall Canal is the majority of this route....
