Help connect Crofton
Many Slow Ways have several route options. Some will be better than others, or good for different reasons.
Our goal is for each Slow Way to have at least one route that is verified and surveyed. To be verified – and get its snail badge – a route needs at least three positive reviews.
Give a hike and help get a for every one of Crofton’s Slow Ways.

The first part on roads, and then paths by the holiday park, is very pleasant, although the busy Doncaster Road requires care and patience to cross....

It's a good choice of route with plenty of variety including streets, paved paths (along the old canal), fields and around a lake. There is a possible break at the Woodland cafe south of the lake near the Crofton end....

Hugh Hudson added Roycro two, a new walk from Royston (Yorkshire) to Crofton
Walk this routeIt's a really Beautiful walk, quite easy to follow and was very enjoyable....

Havercroft to Winterset was pleasant and you had to walk on the road on Nostel Lane and the road could be narrow at times but it's very walkable. Lots of beautiful countryside to see on your walk. From Wintersett to Crofton is was straightforward, the paths were good especially the closer you got to Crofton....

Either cross the fields from Havercroft to get to Hemsworth or use the combined slow ways 'Crofton to South Hiendley' and 'South Heindley to Hemsworth'....

There are a couple of stone step crossings over walls on this route (at Common Lane and Chevet Lane), as well as three stiles (two of which are for the railway crossing) and a small plank bridge across a stream but its sturdy (all pictured in the attached photos). There is a closed gate between the farm and Hare Park Lane at the Crofton end of the walk, it has a gap at the side to walk round but it isn't marked as a footpath so thought I'd mention because it is a public right of way so don't be put off of continuing....

If walking North (Crofton to Featherstone) you need to turn left as you leave the woodland near West Hardwick and follow the edge of the field before turning right at the telegraph pole (see photo), don't walk straight through the field as the route on slowways suggests. After a few metres you then need to turn left, before you pass under the telephone lines, uphill across the field towards the large conifer trees (I've attached a photo), now you're back on the marked slow ways route. At the telegraph pole turn left (see photo), following the edge of the field before turning right into the woodland via a short section of boardwalk and rejoining the marked slow ways route....

if you follow the original route via Cold Hiendley you will need to tackle unmarked footpaths and fields with no clear access, its extremely difficult and not a pleasant walk. Instead, from Anglers I would walk through Haw Park Woods to pass the end of Cold Hiendley Reservoir on the west (as opposed to the east end) then use the path alongside Barnsley Canal to Navvy Lane....
Debs
It involves several stiles, steps (see example photo where the route crosses Chevet Lane), and a narrow footbridge so is only suitable for walking, and can be muddy. There is an unavoidable stretch of road walking through Walton but there is a pavement throughout this section....
