Good short route, mainly along clear tracks or pavements. Good view of Sandal Castle. Footpath next to Sandal RUFC overgrown but easy to detour along the side of the pitches and rejoin on the far side - alternative to us the footpath behind Aldi....

A variation of walking through parks, on the canal and on the road. A few hilly sections....

Walk this route

There are a couple of stone step crossings over walls on this route (at Common Lane and Chevet Lane), as well as three stiles (two of which are for the railway crossing) and a small plank bridge across a stream but its sturdy (all pictured in the attached photos). There is a closed gate between the farm and Hare Park Lane at the Crofton end of the walk, it has a gap at the side to walk round but it isn't marked as a footpath so thought I'd mention because it is a public right of way so don't be put off of continuing....

Walk this route

Where it meets a surfaced road, we turn right and follow the road into Notton. The path over to Newmillerdam is only surfaced as far as the edge of Notton, but is clear, fairly well trodden and easy to follow, the only doubtful point being just after the old railway is crossed, where there are two paths down to the Chevet, and it is easy to miss the first one, which is the right of way....

Walk this route

Leaving the Newmillerdam car park, we cross the road and turn left, taking a right turn into School Lane, then following the footpath sign up a short lane and continuing straight on up the path past the houses and over a small hill. Take the right turn just after the bridge, and follow this path through suburban woodland....

Walk this route

This is a great route and a lovely way to get between Newmillerdam and Royston. I think a good alternative would make use of the old railway line. The route would be longer but easier maybe....

Walk this route

Look out for Sandal Castle to the east and enjoy the long, straight and green path alongside Pugney's drain. The suggested route makes use of an open gate (which looks usually open) which links the rugby pitches to the Star Sandal pub....

Walk this route

It involves several stiles, steps (see example photo where the route crosses Chevet Lane), and a narrow footbridge so is only suitable for walking, and can be muddy. There is an unavoidable stretch of road walking through Walton but there is a pavement throughout this section....
