Surveys
We are working to build-up a picture of what routes look like. To do that we are asking volunteers to survey routes so that we can communicate features, obstacles and challenges that may make a route desirable or not.
Slow Ways surveyors are asked to complete some basic online training, but they are not vetted. If you are dependent on the survey information being correct in order to complete a route, we recommend that you think critically about the information provided. You may also wish to wait until more than one survey has been completed.

14 Sep 2022 (edited 15 Sep 2022)Walked as the first part of a three route walk from Royston to Rothwell via Newmillerdam and Wakefield. Most of this route is very enjoyable and all of it is easy to follow. The only thing that prevented me giving it 5 stars is the length of the road walk through Royston, which is mostly on a narrow pavement. The road walk ends when we pass under the railway bridge at the old station.
We take the path just after the bend, which soon becomes a pleasant old lane. Where it meets a surfaced road, we turn right and follow the road into Notton.
On joining George Lane, we follow it left (west) to Ingswell Drive, where we turn right, then take the right fork into Ingswell Avenue, then left onto the footpath (the GPX file is rather approximate at this point!). The path over to Newmillerdam is only surfaced as far as the edge of Notton, but is clear, fairly well trodden and easy to follow, the only doubtful point being just after the old railway is crossed, where there are two paths down to the Chevet, and it is easy to miss the first one, which is the right of way.
We follow the path into the wood, and the Newmillerdam country park. Where the path forks take the left branch downhill, turn left to cross the bridge and then keep turning right to follow the track along the edge of the reservoir to the dam, which is the end of this route.

13 Apr 2022 (edited 19 Aug 2022)This is a great route and a lovely way to get between Newmillerdam and Royston.
I think a good alternative would make use of the old railway line. The route would be longer but easier maybe. Someone local will know.
