Help connect Brockworth

Many Slow Ways have several route options. Some will be better than others, or good for different reasons.

Our goal is for each Slow Way to have at least one route that is verified and surveyed. To be verified – and get its snail badge – a route needs at least three positive reviews.

Give a hike and help get a for every one of Brockworth’s Slow Ways.

Latest Updates

However, I would advise walkers on the Cotswold Way not to attempt crossing the very busy A417, as the cars on this road are very fast, and there are no safe crossings nearby. The route plotted here goes under the A417, which is a much safer and more sensible option....

It's an extremely easy route, as the entire walk is on flat roads. I was chatting with a friend the whole way, and before I knew it, we had reached Brockworth! Brockworth is a great place to stop for a rest and pick up some supplies at the nearby Co-op....

Walk this route

It started with a fair bit of road walking and led to a small patch of woodland with a slight climb. Do not miss the Barrow Wake Viewpoint; it is only a few steps off the route. Towards the end of the walk from Brockworth to Colesbourne, there’s a stretch of muddy path, which wasn’t too much of a problem on a dry day....

There are some amenities at Brockworth, but places like the library and the community centre, where you might be able to use toilets, are not open on weekends....

A safe and pleasant route through the town with well-connected pedestrian road and a footbridge. It is simple to follow and it’s perfect for a leisure walk. A shop near the end of the route is available for resupply....

We adjusted the original Globro One to cross under the railway safely and over the A38 motorway, as well as after encountering a couple of dead ends. I've mistakenly forgot to include the footbridge crossing over the A38, but it'll be pretty obvious when you come to it! This is not necessarily scenic, but it is easy to navigate and probably the best way between the two destinations, so 3 stars....

I was trying to get back up onto the Cotswold Way on Cooper's Hill behind. Some of this was muddy and difficult but the path was marked and you start to rise up through a field, onto Cooper's Hill. You go up through trees to Kite's hill where the ground opens out for Painswick Golf course where you are walking along a ridge really, an odd mix of iron age undulations and golf bunkers. The clear track starts to drop down and veer away left, still alongside the golf course as you reach a small cross road and the path then takes you down into woods past a small quarry. Then, finally, you start to come into Painswick after one more cross of the golf course, probably the 18th. The track goes down now towards the right (Golf Course road) into a T junction with the B4073 and some views south. Turn left then you are coming past houses (Cotswold stone), keep following the road that goes straight down the hill until you reach the main road (our old friend the busy A46) and there is a right turn to follow it down the main street to the big church, shops, a couple of pubs and the bus stop....
