Help connect Bargoed
Many Slow Ways have several route options. Some will be better than others, or good for different reasons.
Our goal is for each Slow Way to have at least one route that is verified and surveyed. To be verified – and get its snail badge – a route needs at least three positive reviews.
Give a hike and help get a for every one of Bargoed’s Slow Ways.

A fair part of this route is along Heol Adam the mountain road that runs across Gelligaer Common (Photo 1)....

From High Street in Argoed, the route then doubles back on to a cycle path (looks like a former railway line or tram road path). After crossing the River Sirhowy, there are several paths and I took a wrong turn here and ended up walking up a fantastic green lane through the woods and joined the main path further up the mountain. At the top of the mountain and out on the lane (Manmoel Road), the route clearly passes through Pen y Fan Farm, but walking this way, one of the residents (not sure if this is still a farm of part of the local equestrian centre) told me that the bridal way had been re-located, starting at the gate opposite the entrance to the Pen y Fan Caravan Park, around 300 metres down the lane. After Aberbeeg, the route to Abertillery is straight forward following the 465 cycle route all the way. Photo 5 - The bridal path lane between Pen y Fan Farm and Pentrapeod...

A bit of care is needed to cross the road at the crossroads at Pengam...

Nice, scenic walk, easy to follow as it's mostly along a cycle path...

An excellent walk overall, starting with a nice steady plod gently uphill on the cycle path from Bargoed all the way up to Fochriw and through the beautiful Cwm Darran Park. After walking down Hill Road, it`s a straight forward walk along the main road from Pontlottyn to Rhymney, the last stretch on a footpath parallel to main the road. Bargoed Woodland Park really is a gem and most of this walk is within this park. Photo 1 - View across the Rhymney Valley from Bargoed Photo 2 - The northern end of Bargoed Woodland Park...

Although it`s a woodland park, there are lots of glades and meadows and the path alongside the River Rhymney is lovely. Photo 2 - One of several bridges over the River Rhymney Photo 7 - View across the Rhymney Valley from Bargoed...

Takes you to a railway crossing south of Rhymney Station that doesn't exist, just a big metal fence. Takes you up paths to fochriw that absolutely do not exist. The only option is to walk up the hill from pontlottyn....
