Latest Updates

If I were able I'd give this route 4.5 stars, as there's a bit of pavement walking at the beginning in Eynsham and through Freeland, however the roads were quiet and not unpleasant, so I've been charitable and rounded it up to 5*....

Agree with the earlier points made, except that the diversion mentioned is no longer in effect; the whole route is walkable. The odd double-back in Stonesfield is presumably there to allow a visit to the one shop en route....

Walk this route

One style at the back of Blenheim Palace park, but often very narrow footpaths, so not suitable for any wheels....

Firstly, eastward of Middle Aston Lane, on the road to Grange Farm (SP479278), the route turns southward but there's no sign to indicate that there's a path. Finally, not long after that, at SP492243, the route moves from the southeastward footpath to the southward bridleway....

Only tricky but was crossing the A4095 between Woodstock and Shipton....

A mixture of Courtney and town with some road walking and very uneven and boggy sections crossing fields....

Walk this route

An excellent route through beautiful Cotswold countryside (photo 2), historic villages, and Blenheim Park mostly following the Oxfordshire Way. Only access issues are gates and steps (Stonesfield Steps, photo 1) into and within Blenheim Park. Currently (July 2022) a small diversion over the Grand Bridge due to lake dredging at Blenheim, but this affords even better views of the Palace and Park!...

Berkshire Walker

Walk this route

An enjoyable walk, with quite a mixture of terrains - farmland, small sections of forest, village and town roads, and a section through the Blenheim Palace estate, from Combe Gate to Woodstock itself....

I walked first Wookid two from Kidlington to Woodstock, and then Wookid one back to Kidlington, so I'm putting the same text in both routes. Wookid One starts with a significant on-road section (A44), going south from Woodstock, and after a short path through a meadow, continues on the A4095 into Bladon, and then onto a side-road. I wouldn't recommend Wookid Two for wheels - it has stiles, kissing gates, and three flights of stairs (one by Thrupp church, and the other two on the Old Woodstock Line railway section.....

We walked this route from Kidlington to Woodstock. The only muddy section was under the railway bridge at Thrupp, and I know this section can be almost impassable due to flooding in very wet weather....

Vehicle traffic is largely avoided except for the crossing of the A44 at Begbroke; the A4095 in Bladon and the A44 approach into Woodstock. The route also uses a railway level crossing on the edge of Kidlington....
