Help connect Deddington

Many Slow Ways have several route options. Some will be better than others, or good for different reasons.

Our goal is for each Slow Way to have at least one route that is verified and surveyed. To be verified – and get its snail badge – a route needs at least three positive reviews.

Give a hike and help get a for every one of Deddington’s Slow Ways.

Compared to a number of other nearby Slow Ways, I got the feeling of remoteness - the more overgrown, but still passable, sections along the canal path were a haven for blue-black dragonflies when I walked it, and I heard a number of cuckoos. Tricky turns - from Deddington, at Somerton go under the rail bridge -there is a footpath sign off to your right, , but it's well hidden - look for the steps, and you'll spot the signpost. As you cross the railway and then the canal at Somerton Crossing, you are (unsurprisingly) on a bridge - you can look down to the canal path away to your left but there's no obvious way down....

Nice walk from Deddington to Banbury. Especially lovely between Deddington and Adderbury. If walking with dogs you will have to lift less spritely ones over a couple of stile as one field contains well fenced-in sheep....

Ardley to Bicester is a bit more functional, Motorway noise, and walking through Bicester, but no way of avoiding that....

I haven't walked this route but we have heard that the section between Ditchley Estate and Fulwell is not a public right of way. Unfortunately I don't have information on the exact location but wanted you to be aware if you're looking to test walk and review the route. If you create a Chaded two as a result please let me know by commenting on this review....

Firstly, eastward of Middle Aston Lane, on the road to Grange Farm (SP479278), the route turns southward but there's no sign to indicate that there's a path. Finally, not long after that, at SP492243, the route moves from the southeastward footpath to the southward bridleway....

The footpath to Wigginton west of South Newington had been closed by Oxfordshire CC due to the poor condition of the boardwalk, but alternative routes to Wigginton were possible using paths to the north, or by walking along the Wigginton Road....

Easy walking, well used routes, very little mud and plenty to see. Access to public transport and facilities good. A couple of missing signposts, but easy enough to work out....
