Help connect Walkden

Many Slow Ways have several route options. Some will be better than others, or good for different reasons.

Our goal is for each Slow Way to have at least one route that is verified and surveyed. To be verified – and get its snail badge – a route needs at least three positive reviews.

Give a hike and help get a for every one of Walkden’s Slow Ways.

Latest Updates

After crossing the motorway, the route thankfully heads away from the noise passing through more woodland and fields before arriving at the outskirts of Swinton where you cross a pedestrian bridge over the A580....

Walk this route

The route from Walkden started with a lovely, clean, wooded section of tarmacked cycle-track which took us 40% of the way. Any steps make it difficult for all wheels and they’re often a difficult distance apart for prams/buggies, and they are a long way round for walkers, and they slope too so are harder work!...

Walk this route

The route was super easy to follow and gets you from a o b pretty much in a straight line. There are stairs that I wasn’t sure if u can avoid so wouldn’t say it’s accessible....

Walk this route

This walk was lovely, going through a park and down public footpaths. It is accessible and has safe zebra crossing when roads are in the route. There were some muddy trails so will be better when the conditions are dry....

After we left the busway, the walk through the park was also pleasant, although new housing had altered the route of the footpath slightly....

When you turn off the guided busway and walk through the woods at Ellen Brook the route diverges slightly from the plotted one and you walk through a new housing estate to get onto Hilton Road for the final stretch to Walkden station....

Walk this route

This walk was one of my favourite yet, was quick and easy, mostly straight down a path along side the guided bus. The route is suitable for all and has shops at the start and finish. I would do this walk again for sure, definitely in the summer....

Walk this route

The route is good to walk or run. There is a small part of the walk where the path goes through Worsley woods and is mainly earth/mud, so bear in mind what time of year it is. There are a few sets of steep steps on the route but once through the woods you get on to the loop line which takes you through Roe Green and then on to Walkden the loop line is a well formed path. The walk ends at Walkden train station This route is not suited for a wheel chair due to the steps which get you on to the loop line. The route seems reasonably safe and there are numerous people on the loop line walking. The route is accurate...

Overall I think it’s a good place for people who enjoy walking and jogging. It’s busy and everyone friendly that passes by and it feels a safe place you can also walk down past the motorway and can listen to the cars. The walk leads you to the train station which you then can get a train it’s a great location....

I chose this route as I wanted a more direct route to Walkden, and given a period of very wet weather I wanted to avoid some very muddy footpaths included in Ovewal one....
