Many Slow Ways have several route options. Some will be better than others, or good for different reasons.
Our goal is for each Slow Way to have at least one route that is verified and surveyed. To be verified – and get its snail badge – a route needs at least three positive reviews.
Give a hike and help get a for every one of Tyldesley’s Slow Ways.

This is a nice easy walk from Tyldesley to Worsley. It’s mostly flat and should suit people of must ages. It also should suit people with pushchairs and bikes and possibly wheelchairs as the route is on mostly firm pathways. Starting in Tyldesley a short walk will take you to a pathway alongside the guided bus route. It’s an easy walk however I would say that this part of the walk is not so interesting depending on who you may meet along the way! Reaching Ellenbrook there is a good Co op should you need refreshments. Leaving Ellenbrook you will cross the road onto a tree lined walkway with leaved canopy. This is a more pleasant section of the walk in my opinion. You will follow looplines signs towards Roe Green along this section. There is a nice coffee shop at Row Green but you will need to walk up steps if you want to call in. So this optional and you can just carry on if you like. Further on you will reach the bridges at the M60 and you should turn right towards Worsley woods. Again a pleasant section of the walk ultimately taking you to Worsley roundabout and St Marks church where the route finishes. I would say that the route should be reasonably safe during the day as it seems well used by locals....

We left from just outside the church in Market Place in Atherton, then followed the route out of the town and were soon walking through woodland and fields before eventually arriving at the wide shared path at the side of the guided busway into Tyldesley....

After we left the busway, the walk through the park was also pleasant, although new housing had altered the route of the footpath slightly....

The route followed the main road from Atherton for a short distance before turning down Miller’s Lane....

When you turn off the guided busway and walk through the woods at Ellen Brook the route diverges slightly from the plotted one and you walk through a new housing estate to get onto Hilton Road for the final stretch to Walkden station....

This walk was one of my favourite yet, was quick and easy, mostly straight down a path along side the guided bus. The route is suitable for all and has shops at the start and finish. I would do this walk again for sure, definitely in the summer....

Tracks good, but can become flooded when the area is very wet...
