Help connect Stewarton

Many Slow Ways have several route options. Some will be better than others, or good for different reasons.

Our goal is for each Slow Way to have at least one route that is verified and surveyed. To be verified – and get its snail badge – a route needs at least three positive reviews.

Give a hike and help get a for every one of Stewarton’s Slow Ways.

This route works fine as a connecting route if you're wanting to combine it with others for a longer walk, but sadly isn't that charming as a standalone walk....

Walk this route

On the whole, we had reasonable lines of sight and would cross ahead of bends – however walkers need to be attentive at all times, especially in the event of poor weather hampering visibility. The final section into Kilmarnock is safer, following pavemented roads and easy to navigate....

Walk this route

As the first reviewer notes, there is a long portion of this route out of Stewarton that relies on walking on a well used road, however we found the majority to be straight enough to give reasonable lines of sight, and were able to hear well enough to cross ahead of bends and use the verges where necessary. Not a relaxing experience, but we did not feel more in danger than any other non-car road user. Once this has been navigated, the last section into Kilmarnock works fine, following pavemented roads....

Walk this route

The route is pleasant along quiet rural roads and through good views and green fields, with a short stretch of footpath through the fields themselves. Some options for refreshments in Dunlop, otherwise Stewarton is well equipped....

Walk this route

Can't walk on the verge all the way due to vegetation, high banking & drainage ditches so some points it's necessary to walk along the road. It would be a problem for someone of limited mobility, those afraid of traffic or who don't like walking on roads....
