Surveys
We are working to build-up a picture of what routes look like. To do that we are asking volunteers to survey routes so that we can communicate features, obstacles and challenges that may make a route desirable or not.
Slow Ways surveyors are asked to complete some basic online training, but they are not vetted. If you are dependent on the survey information being correct in order to complete a route, we recommend that you think critically about the information provided. You may also wish to wait until more than one survey has been completed.

22 Sep 2024This route takes a busy B road between Stewarton and Kilmarnock. I walked south on a September weekend, and had to stop frequently to hop up on the verge while cars passed. Visibility was good, but the verges weren't sufficient to walk on throughout. This route works fine as a connecting route if you're wanting to combine it with others for a longer walk, but sadly isn't that charming as a standalone walk.

22 Sep 2024This route heading out of Stewarton runs across a relatively busy B road. It isn’t possible to walk on the verge, but you can step up as cars pass. On the whole, we had reasonable lines of sight and would cross ahead of bends – however walkers need to be attentive at all times, especially in the event of poor weather hampering visibility. The final section into Kilmarnock is safer, following pavemented roads and easy to navigate.

19 Sep 2024As the first reviewer notes, there is a long portion of this route out of Stewarton that relies on walking on a well used road, however we found the majority to be straight enough to give reasonable lines of sight, and were able to hear well enough to cross ahead of bends and use the verges where necessary. Not a relaxing experience, but we did not feel more in danger than any other non-car road user. Once this has been navigated, the last section into Kilmarnock works fine, following pavemented roads.

18 Mar 2022Route runs along 2 B roads and it's necessary for most of it to walk on the actual road. It's not very busy but it is necessary to hop off the road onto the verge at points when cars pass. Can't walk on the verge all the way due to vegetation, high banking & drainage ditches so some points it's necessary to walk along the road. It would be a problem for someone of limited mobility, those afraid of traffic or who don't like walking on roads.
