Many Slow Ways have several route options. Some will be better than others, or good for different reasons.
Our goal is for each Slow Way to have at least one route that is verified and surveyed. To be verified – and get its snail badge – a route needs at least three positive reviews.
Give a hike and help get a for every one of Portslade-by-Sea’s Slow Ways.

Latest Updates
As mentioned in the first long review of the route, the part between Portslade & Southwick tunnel is a bit dog-infested. But once you are on the Downs it's a wonderful walk. Not too steep, either, which isn't always true on the Downs!...

This is an accessible and easy route which takes you few some nice parks / rec ground spaces and lands you at the lovely green in Southwick....
TamsinB
Very easy to follow, some quite narrow paths at times, but clear enough. Reasonably safe throughout, some beautiful views from and of the South Downs and the sea....
Peter
Beautiful sunny day with cool wind to enjoy a slow slow walk with a view....
Ami
The route was very scenic and took us through the sea front along beach and took us straight to portslade station. Notes for improvement is that the route cut across aldrington park which has a cricket match happening....
Kelly Smith
The route then turns left to cross Benfield Hill, a footbridge over the A27 then down Benfield Valley to Portslade Station. There are no stopping places on the Downs, but there is a friendly cafe at the Benfield Valley FootballGolf Centre at Hangleton near the Portslade end of the walk....
Bostal Boy
A variation from Holmbush centre to Steyning means you can walk to Steyning and get the bus back. Handy for the monthly market or just to meet friends for lunch!...
Viccivicci
The route is 100% paved on pavements through residential streets, plus Southwick Park and Portslade Cemetery....
Bostal Boy
The section from Portslade as far as the Southwick Tunnel starts off through residential streets, then picks up a long straight footpath alongside allotments, houses, gardens and playing fields. From Beeding Hill, the path follows the South Downs Way down into the Adur Valley, then takes its leave to join the Downslink path towards Bramber. It gets 3* for the Portslade to Southwick Tunnel section and 5* for Southwick Hill to Steyning....
Bostal Boy
Nice route, the end nearest to Porslade is accessible but isn't after it crosses the A27. We came across a broken style which was hard to get over but not impossible. A photo of the style and screen shot of where it was is attached....
BecciWest
The route is not the most direct route, initially heading down Trafalgar Street in completely the opposite direction....
Bostal Boy
Nice route out of the centre of Brighton past the Pavilion and on to the promenade....
BecciWest
Nice little route that takes you away from roads where possible like through the cemetery and through the recreation ground but still accessible. We walked in the direction of Porslade to Southwick and got a bit confused as the path wasn't obvious through the leisure centre from the entrance of the centre but was clear when we got closer. Photos attached try to show this....
