Help connect Southwick
Many Slow Ways have several route options. Some will be better than others, or good for different reasons.
Our goal is for each Slow Way to have at least one route that is verified and surveyed. To be verified – and get its snail badge – a route needs at least three positive reviews.
Give a hike and help get a for every one of Southwick’s Slow Ways.

Lovely walk easy to navigate along the cycle route....

Along Hove promenade is lovely with plenty of stops for coffee....

This is an accessible and easy route which takes you few some nice parks / rec ground spaces and lands you at the lovely green in Southwick....

Only negative comments are around tree roots narrowing the pavement (which are not significantly obstructive and there are other options, such as crossing the road) and the end of the route which takes you across the green (not recommended as barrier blocks exit to green at the far side). Apart from that this is probably about as easy as they come!...

Some industrial vehicles to watch out for, but footway on the majority of the route...

The route is 100% paved on pavements through residential streets, plus Southwick Park and Portslade Cemetery....

Once past the end of the harbour, the route changes to seaside promenade for about two or three miles to Brighton Pier. From just before the Pier the path heads up East Street then goes through the Pavilion Gardens, then along Gloucester Place to Trafalgar Street and up to the Railway Station. It is also flat all the way until the final climb up Trafalgar Street to the station....

From Hove you follow the prom and then into Brighton Centre via the pavilion area which is better than the busy shopping streets....

Nice little route that takes you away from roads where possible like through the cemetery and through the recreation ground but still accessible. We walked in the direction of Porslade to Southwick and got a bit confused as the path wasn't obvious through the leisure centre from the entrance of the centre but was clear when we got closer. Photos attached try to show this....

This route begins in central Brighton with a sweeping prommenade. As the route exits Brighton, it takes a route south of the canal which is an industrial area....
nicomancer
All of the route is on concrete in a residential area, and so is accessible in principle but the pavement on one road, i think Park Road, was not suitable for chair users or scooters. The trees planted took up most of the pavement and routes were coming up through making what pavement there was very uneven. Route goes past/near several schools so busy at peak school times....
