There's pavement all the way, so it's safe despite being a busy road. Four stars because it's really the only way to go....

Walk this routeNear the start I would mention that Baird Road between Newbridge and Ratho has a pavement that is quite narrow and uneven in places which might mean it's not suitable for wheels. It's also not possible to get directly from the Cowgate to George IV Bridge so using Victoria Street would be the simplest amendment to the route as you get close to the end....

The route follows an old railway line. If heading for Queensferry then continue on the railway path and omit Kirkliston....

If continuing to Kirkliston or Queensferry then an alternative route would be to turn right just before the railway line, cross it using the footbridge and follow Station Road down to the A8 road....

The half of the route along the canal is lovely and flat but the access path between the canal and Cliftonhall Road is short but steep and gravelly which might be a bit tricky with wheels....

Good straightforward route for walking with the only potential downside being the pavement in Harvest Road which got quite narrow in places. This might cause some issues if you’re wheeling. It was particularly noticeable on the steepest part of the road....
