Surveys
We are working to build-up a picture of what routes look like. To do that we are asking volunteers to survey routes so that we can communicate features, obstacles and challenges that may make a route desirable or not.
Slow Ways surveyors are asked to complete some basic online training, but they are not vetted. If you are dependent on the survey information being correct in order to complete a route, we recommend that you think critically about the information provided. You may also wish to wait until more than one survey has been completed.

01 Mar 2023Review of Slow Ways route Newkir one (Newbridge to Kirkliston)
I walked this route in March 2023. It is a short, simple and enjoyable route. A the beginning, there are a pedestrian crossing, a good tarmac path and then an elevated walkway, all of which serve to keep the walker or wheeled traveller safely away from the huge volumes of traffic which are concentrated in this area. There is then a narrow but well maintained path which crosses open countryside and a bridge over the River Almond to arrive on the edge of Kirkliston. The final section makes use of mostly quiet roads until a short section of pavement along the main road and the end of the route. All in all, an easy and well-designed route.

30 Mar 2022This is a straightforward route connecting the two locations. Fortunately there is a light controlled pedestrian crossing across the A8. The route follows an old railway line. If heading for Queensferry then continue on the railway path and omit Kirkliston.
