Surveys
We are working to build-up a picture of what routes look like. To do that we are asking volunteers to survey routes so that we can communicate features, obstacles and challenges that may make a route desirable or not.
Slow Ways surveyors are asked to complete some basic online training, but they are not vetted. If you are dependent on the survey information being correct in order to complete a route, we recommend that you think critically about the information provided. You may also wish to wait until more than one survey has been completed.
Help people know more about this route by volunteering to submit a survey.

22 Apr 2022While this route is certainly walkable and generally wheelable I've given it a lower rating because of the use of pavements alongside very busy roads (Calder Road onwards into the city) when there's the alternative option of continuing along the canal to Fountainbridge. This may be a bit longer and does involve the narrow aqueduct at Slateford but this could be something to consider for a quieter less polluted walk.
Near the start I would mention that Baird Road between Newbridge and Ratho has a pavement that is quite narrow and uneven in places which might mean it's not suitable for wheels.
It's also not possible to get directly from the Cowgate to George IV Bridge so using Victoria Street would be the simplest amendment to the route as you get close to the end.
