Help connect Midsomer Norton

Our goal is for each Slow Way to have at least one route that is verified and surveyed. To be verified – and get its snail badge – a route needs at least three positive reviews.

Short route this, I was doing it as part of a much longer route and back to front (Radstock to Midsomer Norton - 30/11/2023)....

Walk this route

The surfaces were a little leafy in places but not too slippery....

JohnMyerson

Walk this route

A lovely, easy, straight, tarmac cycle/walking path which is particularly pleasant if you like being immersed in trees almost the whole way....

Andrew Davies

Walk this route

Be aware that the main street of Chilcompton looks lovely with a stream beside it but has no pavement for walkers....

Andrew Davies

Walk this route

Note that it often shares or closely parallels the route used by its sister Slow Way Bisrad (going between Bishop Sutton and Radstock). The only negatives are that the route is a little prone to annoying standing crop without clear paths through or good headlands round the edge of some fields in mid/late summer, especially just east of Bishop Sutton (home of my least favourite bean field which necessarily features in several Slow Ways going east out of the village!) and it is a bit of a boring (but also necessary) walk through Paulton....

Mockymock

Walk this route

We've heard that there is no safe path currently through 9 acre woods due to logging work. We're not sure when it may reopen so please do check before you walk....

Slow Ways Cristie

Walk this route

In addition, if you *do* climb the gate you are in to a world of smelly deep (really, really deep) mud in a small field dense with cows & bulls....

Walk this route

"Quiet route from central Radstock to Midsomer Norton High Street replacing one of two railway lines that used to serve the area. This popular route is mostly tarmac path away from traffic although it does cross a busy main road at a pedestrian crossing. It is well used by runners, dog walkers and cyclists There is long slow incline towards Midsomer Norton which would make it very hard work for a wheelchair user."...

Walk this route

Only slight negative is that the route is tree lined both sides for the majority of route so very little scenery to admire, but on the upside its shady in hot sun. I cannot see what the difference is between Midrad one and two, and have suggested Midrad two is deleted...

Walk this route

It is not a particularly accessible route - there are quite a few styles, and some steep and narrow footpaths - but it is quite direct, and mostly very easy to navigate - especially the sections out of Midsomer Norton, and along the Fosse Way into Shepton....

The route from Clutton to Bishop Sutton is an alternative to that suggested in the slow way from Radstock to Bishop Norton along well used and easy to navigate footpaths....

Walk this route

This route is pretty much the standard way of walking between Midsomer Norton and Radstock. And that’s for a reason - it’s a straightforward, accessible route. The only things you have to watch out for are bikes and dogs....
