Description

This is an alternative route to Shemid One avoiding Harridge Wood, which sadly is unsafe at the moment due to Ash Dieback. It is slightly more direct (1 mile shorter) but a touch more up-and-down. It also passes directy by The Oakhill Inn, which is a very welcome pit-stop (the other route did pass close to the old Nettlebridge Inn, but that is now houses).

There is some road walking on both this and the original route, and the narrow lanes can be busier than expected so do take care. There are two busy road crossings (again on both routes) - the worst is crossing the Old Frome Road when near Beacon Hill which is very fast, but has good visibility. An important point to note at this crossing, when travelling from Midsomer Norton direction, do not head directly on the path straight into the trees which appears more direct - it will lead you to a very steep cliff. Instead walk through the trees parallel to the road to the car park and follow the footpath

Surveys

We are working to build-up a picture of what routes look like. To do that we are asking volunteers to survey routes so that we can communicate features, obstacles and challenges that may make a route desirable or not.

Slow Ways surveyors are asked to complete some basic online training, but they are not vetted. If you are dependent on the survey information being correct in order to complete a route, we recommend that you think critically about the information provided. You may also wish to wait until more than one survey has been completed.

Help people know more about this route by volunteering to submit a survey.

  1. Complete the survey training.
