Help connect Locks Heath
Many Slow Ways have several route options. Some will be better than others, or good for different reasons.
Our goal is for each Slow Way to have at least one route that is verified and surveyed. To be verified – and get its snail badge – a route needs at least three positive reviews.
Give a hike and help get a for every one of Locks Heath’s Slow Ways.

Slightly muddy in parts (due to time of year!) however manageable with walking boots / wellies. Route up Holly Hill slightly challenging due to mud and uneven woodland pathway.. Beautiful cafe along the river to fuel up on coffee :-) Highly recommend...

Pathway from Crableck Lane past fields through to the river was uneven and muddy however the views were worth it and even met a few lovely friends along the way (photos attached). Would definitely recommend, lovely views and wildlife, very varied and final outlook of river beautiful....

Challenging for wheelchairs because of the path through Holly Hill, but there may be versions that could make this viable in good weather....

New route takes into account the various marinas that you need to walk through. Very pretty...

This is a nice accurate route which gets to the Solent Way quickly. Theres then a nice coastal walk, some of which skirts the beach. We chose to stay on the path as it is easier walking than a pebbled beach....

Once over the Hamble its a lovel walk along the marina with some great views. Into Locks Heath remains a pretty nice walk. If you need a pub to finish your walk you might need to take a slight detour, although we don't know this area well so happy to stand corrected....

Heading out of Locks Heath the was a bit of road walking that had no footpath, we did meet several cars, but all were mindful of driving slowly and there were several other pedestrians on the road at the same time, so it wasn't really an issue. A nice section along the coast, which was really beautiful but there were places where hedging along the footpath prevented views out to the sea, you'd probably be able to walk along the beach just as well if you wanted to maintain the views, but it would not be suitable for cycling due to the the narrow nature of the path....

The route made good use of park lane walk with only a small section that was on a road that had no footpath, although we met no vehicles whilst walking this section on a Sunday afternoon....

Slow Ways Connections added Burloc two, a new walk from Bursledon to Locks Heath
Walk this routeThis is a lovely route that takes in the hamlet of Hook and Chilling Common, then the beach through to Meon and Stubbington beyond. Very nice cafe at the Meon bird reserve plus often a coffee van. Water tap on the beach side of the toilet block at Meon shore....
Duncan Borthwick
The route starts at Bursledon Station and there is no footpath alongside access road which is quite busy. But its a busy A road and not a comfortable resting point. And we turn in all too early onto another narrow well used road with no footpath....
