Help connect Stubbington
Many Slow Ways have several route options. Some will be better than others, or good for different reasons.
Our goal is for each Slow Way to have at least one route that is verified and surveyed. To be verified – and get its snail badge – a route needs at least three positive reviews.
Give a hike and help get a for every one of Stubbington’s Slow Ways.

Plenty of wide open paths along the seafront. Would be good for bike rides. Mainly out of town...

The router through Alver Valley might not be a coastal path, but it offers good access, well made paths and has no traffic....

This is a nice accurate route which gets to the Solent Way quickly. Theres then a nice coastal walk, some of which skirts the beach. We chose to stay on the path as it is easier walking than a pebbled beach....

Quickly got out of town onto a shared, pedestrian and cycle loop which is a gravel path nice and wide with open grassland to each side. Lots of birds and wildlife about....

Heading out of Locks Heath the was a bit of road walking that had no footpath, we did meet several cars, but all were mindful of driving slowly and there were several other pedestrians on the road at the same time, so it wasn't really an issue. A nice section along the coast, which was really beautiful but there were places where hedging along the footpath prevented views out to the sea, you'd probably be able to walk along the beach just as well if you wanted to maintain the views, but it would not be suitable for cycling due to the the narrow nature of the path....

Lovely walk through Alver Valley Country Park. All on hard standing. Lot’s of history and wildlife to see....

A good mixed walk with seaside walking, Country Park walking. Cafes for refreshments on route. There are connecting buses at each end and bus stops not far from the route making it a good one day walk....

Jonathan Brown added Stugos two, a new walk from Stubbington to Gosport
Walk this routeThis route is a good route but there is a better one north up the Alver Valley which is grade 2 and accessible. It has the advantage of going off road through some beautiful countryside to get to Stubbington. This new route Stugos 2 needs adding, whereupon a group of volunteers from Gosport Labour Party and the Rainbow Bar Community Archaeology project will survey and review it....

This is a lovely route that takes in the hamlet of Hook and Chilling Common, then the beach through to Meon and Stubbington beyond. Very nice cafe at the Meon bird reserve plus often a coffee van. Water tap on the beach side of the toilet block at Meon shore....

The new Stubbington bypass forces the uncomfortable but essential detour onto Mays Lane via the Northern section of Old Peak Lane, contingents over the Road and down the southern section of Old Peak Lane might make a neater Route now the bypass will be so very much busier than Titchfield Road via The Old churchyard....

This walk takes you through lovely countryside (the gap between Stubbington and Fareham) although ends in the busy town and so around a third of the walk is along roads. The Slow Way is due to have a bypass road opened through the middle of it in late 2021. For now, I would walk it again as it’s a safe route but this will no doubt change when the road is completed....

Much of the route is shared cycle path so good for cycling and/or wheelchair access. As the route hugs the coastline its pavements or roads all the way although you could walk along the promenade in places. Not the most exciting route although the view of the sea and Isle of Wight are lovely....
