Decent walk, took approx 1.5 hours, and runs along both Canal and River, very pleasant - easy to navigate. I would reverse the route so that you start at Kelvindale station, stop in at the 'inn deep' pub halfway through for a drink and finish up in the city centre for some food....

Passes through some nice areas in Hillhead entering briefly into Kelvingrove Park. Very accessible route....

There is a section along the busy Dumbarton Road (I chose to follow the cycle path which runs parallel to the road but about 100 metres to the north). The route then turns off Dumbarton Road onto Kingsway and then becomes Anniesland Road. Then there is only a short walk along Dorchester Avenue, a turn into Clevedon Road and the route arrives at its end point – Kelvindale Train Station....

At the Kelvindale end, the approach to the station appears to be an unpaved road, but it is perfectly safe to cross, given the road markings are in the pedestrians' favour....

A fully accessible route with no steps, running along the good towpath of the Forth and Clyde Canal....
Hiking Historian
First, the route connecting Cowal and Maryhill Roads goes through an area currently undergoing building works, so there is no access here at the moment....

It's a little steep in Kelvingrove Park, and there's a few cobbles onto Elderslie Street, but it's otherwise a fully accessible route for all users, passing through some of Glasgow's more attractive districts....

It is very easy to follow overall and the canal is a very pleasant place to walk, quiet clean and well signposted. After joining the canal, you go over the impressive bridge system and can take a short detour to the viewing platform in Stockingfield Park. After that it is an easy walk along the canal including passing the many locks at Maryhill until you reach Kelvindale....

Nice views out to the hills to the north and you at least pass some green spaces even if there is no option to walk through them....

Walk this routeWalked from Bearsden to Kelvindale Station on a hot summer’s day. I think this is less likely to happen if walking direction from Kelvindale towards Bearsden. The short section without a pavement at Kelvindale - the road is wide enough for cars to give walkers some space; I walked facing the oncoming traffic and it was fine as these things go, all the drivers saw me and gave me space....

Once the road has been crossed, the route enters Dawsholm Park and follows a straight path all the way to the park’s southeast corner....

I walked this route in reverse (Gilshochill to Kelvindale) on a wet afternoon in April 2022. At this point, the route map suggests cutting the corner to reach Cowal Road....

Review of SlowWays Route Kelgla1 (Kelvindale to Glasgow)....

Very good route from central Glasgow to the meeting point at Kelvindale station. There isn't really anything much at Kelvindale part from the station, its more of a connecting point along the path to Bearsden; however the route itself is pleasant enough to walk in its own right, its a cross section through Glasgow with some lovely surprises....

One minor navigation piece: where the River Kelvin intersects with the Forth and Clyde Canal, the Slow Way is plotted as just a right angle intersection, but you have to take the path that zig-zags through a series of switchbacks to get between the higher level canal path and the lower level riverside walk....

The final section on Cowal Road is not pleasant, too many fast cars. I would cross Maryhill Rd at The White House and finish on the canal....
