Latest Updates
This route could have slight alternatives across fields closer to Hurst rather than Hassocks, but that would simply make it different, not better...

Nice combination of ways with the South Downs as a backdrop....
David Sanderson
This is a nice and easy to follow route from Burgess Hill to Hurstpierpoint, it is almost as direct as you can walk it but includes a nice finish that is slightly longer than the most obvious path to the centre of Hurstpierpoint. It is a lovely walk that takes you directly out of Burgess Hill via a pathway that runs adjacent to the railway station, before opening out onto Batchelors Farm....
James Butcher
I walked it in December and whilst there were a few areas that were impassible due to large puddles, it is otherwise an interesting route....
Joanne
Really enjoyable route linking hurst, sayers common, shermanbury and partridge green....
Ricky Coleman
The highlights are the views around the fields near Danny House, the alpacas and the steady climb into a little visited part of the downs near Pyecombe....

Ricky Coleman added Hurbur two, a new walk from Hurstpierpoint to Burgess Hill
Walk this routeOnce you hit the wonderfully maintained green circle (a project to create a green shared path around the entirety of Burgess Hill), the route is firmer underfoot and winds through leafy surroundings. Finally, the path crosses the railway line to London before a hard left takes you alongside the railway line all the way to the finish in Burgess Hill....
Ricky Coleman
An improved route Hurbur two has been created to correct some points with this route....
Ricky Coleman
A really nice, peaceful, rural route following field paths, farm tracks and quiet country lanes across beautiful Low Weald scenery. Given that this is a rural route using footpaths you will have to negotiate stiles, kissing gates, narrow footbridges across streams, plus fields with livestock....

Bostal Boy added Stehur two, a new walk from Steyning to Hurstpierpoint
Walk this routeThe first half of the route to Henfield is across and around fields, plus farm tracks and quiet lanes. From Henfield to Steyning, the route mainly follows the Downslink, a popular cycle and bridle path which uses the route of an old disused railway line. Once at the edge of Steyning, the route uses quiet residential streets to the historic centre of the village....
Bostal Boy
This route avoids the access issues crossing the A23 at Wanbarrow Farm....

From Burgess Hill station this route follows a wide, newly resurfaced path alongside the railway. Once on the outskirts of Hurstpierpoint, the route makes good use of the many footpaths which encircle the village to arrive at the busy central crossroad with its stunning tree (quercus ilex?) by the war memorial....

Hurstpierpoint sits on the northern edge of the South Downs National Park. After zig-zagging through some twitten paths around the edge of the village, the route heads off towards the Downs. South of Danny the route follows a quiet lane under the scarp of the Downs before turning right up a lane past a converted barn to become a wide bostal path....

Really enjoyed this walk but we walked in it the summer after a day of heavy rain and it was very wet and muddy in many places so i would avoid in winter months. Some challenging styles and steep hills, you need good footwear for this route. Very pretty though and enjoyed it, especially enjoyed seeing alpacas who had had recent hair cuts!...
