This entire Slow Way was lost for quite a while owing to a glitch in the Slow Ways website which has now been sorted, so I actually researched this route on the ground quite a few months ago and this is a review from April 2023. It walked fine but I can’t now remember it in detail. It uses fields and lanes to get out of Frampton Cotterell and pick up the Frome Valley walkway, which it uses to get most of the way into Yate....

After several rainy autumn weeks and a deluge which was just abating as I started out, the section along the River Frome Walkway and the bridleway on up from there back into the village was, as promised by a previous reviewer, muddy, with some big patches of standing water to boot, but my feet (in heavy walking boots) just about stayed dry. And ongoing on from the B4058 (where I sat out the next sharp shower in a bus shelter), it is, also as promised, a nice walk across the fields....

The crossing from south to north is better (although still requires care) but from the north side you find yourself stepping out from between the trees pretty much straight onto the carriageway with no view. It then follows out through a little damp path and a climb up through a scrubby hill to make its way from there across a fairly arable landscape with big electricity pylons until it crosses the M5 and departs the waymarked route and heads through a greenfield cemetery and woodland memorial ground, and on across fields to the scary road crossing....

A bit of a workaday stroll, with the odd meadow thrown in with southern marsh and spotted orchids as well as a chance to choose yourself a lovely future burial site....

We walked it in April after a reasonably dry spell, but there were still some muddy & slippery sections....

Lovely walk if you are prepared to get muddy, even in dry months there can be some lingering mud north of the viaduct/Huckford quarry. Also be careful if you are taking a dog, there can be cattle and occasionally bulls in the fields north of Huckford. Wouldn't suggest this route is suitable for mobility issues or young children in the winter, especially if it has been wet....

The highlight is the Huckford Viaduct which you pass under just before a nature reserve and the slow way takes the pleasing detour over Bury Hill fort. Good access to buses, pubs at both ends and a pleasing church in Frampton Cotterell....

It is easy to navigate as it follows the clearly-signed Frome Valley walkway pretty much all the way, and there is a frequent bus service that passes both ends. If you want a shorter walk and to make less of an effort, keep following the Frome Valley Walkway straight along the quiet lane....

This route uses tarmac footpaths and quiet roads through Bradley Stoke, before utilising footpaths over open fields to get to Winterbourne. Once there, a short walk down a residential road to join the Frome Valley Walkway to Frampton Cotterell. This can be muddy in wet weather, so be prepared! The path passes through a community orchard, before finishing at The Globe pub :) An enjoyable stop before returning to Bradley Stoke. This route is accurate, safe and should be verified....

Although the more direct route could be by the road side (pavement all the way) the suggested route is much more nicer as the road got a lot of noise and traffic. In Frampton Cotterell-Winterbourne there is a pub that can be seen from the end of the path with a big garden...
