Surveys
We are working to build-up a picture of what routes look like. To do that we are asking volunteers to survey routes so that we can communicate features, obstacles and challenges that may make a route desirable or not.
Slow Ways surveyors are asked to complete some basic online training, but they are not vetted. If you are dependent on the survey information being correct in order to complete a route, we recommend that you think critically about the information provided. You may also wish to wait until more than one survey has been completed.

29 May 2022 (edited 12 Feb 2023)It is a bit of a poser to choose a rating for this one! It is more like four star walking overall and a decent route generally but the lower rating is because I am flagging it for a safety issue around the crossing of the busy B4059 at Latteridge Hill.
This safety question mainly applies if you are doing this route in the north to south direction going from Thornbury to Frampton Cotterell. The crossing from south to north is better (although still requires care) but from the north side you find yourself stepping out from between the trees pretty much straight onto the carriageway with no view. Extreme caution required: This route has fast-moving traffic even on a Sunday.
We avoided the dodgy crossing by climbing over a locked farm gate (at w3w swam.parkland.pacemaker) onto the closely parallel farm track immediately to the east. The crossing straight across the road from there is fine. However this track is not a public right of way, so be aware of that.
Otherwise the route is enjoyable. The Slow Way uses the Jubilee Way for a couple of miles once you reach the edge of Thornbury. Note that on the way out of town you have to take a zig-zag to reach the path south past the trading estate south of Midland Way. The route plot goes straight down the bank, which is not possible. It then follows out through a little damp path and a climb up through a scrubby hill to make its way from there across a fairly arable landscape with big electricity pylons until it crosses the M5 and departs the waymarked route and heads through a greenfield cemetery and woodland memorial ground, and on across fields to the scary road crossing.
The section immediately south of here down Kite Hill is a nice walk through flowery pastures, with views around, and the Slow Way heads from there on further paths and bridleways through more arable lands to Frampton Cotterell.

29 May 2022A bit of a workaday stroll, with the odd meadow thrown in with southern marsh and spotted orchids as well as a chance to choose yourself a lovely future burial site. There is a serious warning required if you are going from Thornbury to Frampton - stepping through the fence at w3w ///securing.overture.winning at Latteridge Hill takes you straight onto the very busy and fast B4059. It's quite hard to see the gap in the hedge in the other direction. There is a workaround climbing over a locked gate on the drive and walking 30 yds. But that's trespassing.
