Esh Winning to East Hedleyhope where you are on a disused railway path and road. When leaving Esh Winning there is a point where you want to leave the road and follow the railway path. I did a little diversion just before East Hedleyhope through Hedleyhill Colliery Woods nature reserve....

I did this one straight after Sacdur 1 so started in Sacriston. Nice walk down to Witton Gilbert. Truly you're spoilt for choice on this walk. Not far from Esh Winning, there is a stile and when you've crossed it, you need to immediately cross another stile on your right....

A nice disused railway line walk. The path goes over the old railway line and you can't get down....

Starting from Crook, its a long slow gradual uphill walk.Its quite pleasant - you go through quite a lot of woodland....

Photos of stile and fence attached. Much safer to stick to the bridleway running parallel but south of the marked route, especially if you are alone and it's wet. Photos attached! In summary it's a pleasant reasonably straightforward walk but that obstruction needs to be dealt with....

There was a nice picnic area at Broompark picnic site. There was no road crossing at the A167 so I used the footbridge (nice views but lots of steps)....

This is an alternative route replacing the short section in the village of Witton Gilbert with a short detour to visit the village church. It's well worth pausing here as the church is usually open and they provide rest and refreshment for walkers....

There is a fairly steep downhill from the station and then a steep uphill out of the city....

Soon it crosses the river over a footbridge and climbs a steep stony path through the woods. After crossing the minor road it continues around the farm buildings and picks up the line of a well cleared crossfield path to the outskirts of Brandon (a pub here)....

It begins with steps and a steep down hill from the station, and then climbs steeply to Nevilles Cross following the cycle route along quiet roads and a steep descent to the bridge the R Browney....

Most of this route follows an old railway track but some sections were 'inclines' so are fairly steep. The surface is generally good. It traffic free except for 3 or 4 road crossings....
