Popular for dog walking around access from Loughton Common Road which might be an alternative Slow Way approach. It might be possible to continue to the next road and limit pavement walking but it’s okay along the plotted route taking us to shops at the meeting place in Thurcroft which has more evidence of an ex mining community....

I really enjoyed this country walk which offers an excellent and interesting Slow Way. There’s a short spell of quiet street pavement walking before the unsigned path starts from the War Memorial site. The path remains well walked to Laughton en le Morthen. The road walking into Dinnington did knock the shine of this otherwise excellent county walk but there was a pavement all the way and no busy roads to cross....

An excellent route apart from the road section out of Dinnington which lacks a pavement. We walk through the quiet village and follow a track straight on, which becomes a farm road before we head into the wood on a good path that leads us easily to the edge of Langold, and an easy pavement walk to the meeting point by the war memorial (which lacks seats, though there are plenty of benches elsewhere on Doncaster Road)....

After skirting the English Heritage Roche Abbey estate it joins a track to join a lane. Straight ahead into the wood on an unmade track (still easy to follow)....

As it approaches Dinnington the route passes through an industrial estate before joining the pavements along busy roads....

Crossing Conduit Moor the route is on an undefined right of way across the farmland, before heading on a diverted route alongside the motorway to reach a farm-bridge. Immediately over the motorway, the route turns sharply right down a steep bank to follow a diverted route alongside the motorway. Where the route starts to swing away from the motorway there is a walked path straight ahead to join Hardwick Lane. After crossing the railway bridge and at the end of the industrial estate the route turns off along the remains of Church Lane, and shortly joins the cycleway/pavement that skirts the housing and the reclaimed site of Dinnington pit tip (Church Lane becoming Athorpe Road) to reach a roundabout....

Walk this routeThe route through Brookland Park trading estate at Dinnington does not exist as shown on the plot....

Beyond Shireoaks station we follow the bridleway right that crosses the railway then hugs the edge of the field to reach Brancliffe Grange. We reach a road, where a concessionary path in the field opposite removes the need for a short road walk. We cross the field to reach a wood, where there is a choice of routes around to the far left corner (I was following DINWOR 1 which uses the road, but there are better routes on the concessionary paths). I have also changed the final part of the route to use Laughton Road (the main shopping street) rather than going around the Aldi car park to reach the rather disappointing meeting point at the far corner of the bus station (there is a nicer place to rest, with three benches and a view of the church) at the junction of Laughton Road and the B6060)....

Walk this routeWhere the road bears left in a little green space we go straight on onto The Green, then take the paved path half right which goes steeply downhill, with a few steps at the bottom, Another path with steps can be used to cut the corner onto The Wells, which we follow left a little, then find another paved path which crosses the river and the railway to reach South Anston. We go left a short distance along Wilberforce Road then use another paved path to reach the A57. In my view the GPX is a little misleading - it is best to head left to use the pelican crossing to cross the main road, and from there it makes sense to go straight up the path opposite to reach the village centre, where we head straight on up West Street....
Hugh Hudson
An excellent route, mostly off road with varied scenery and good views, slightly let down by a GPX aberration - the straight line across the railway west of Shireoaks is impossible, indefensible and odd, because the plotting of the rest of the route is pretty good. I have created DINWOR 3, which is mostly the same route, but more accurately plotted and removing an unpleasant section of road walking, and I will post a more detailed review with pictures there....

I walked this route from Langold to Dinnington in March. As someone else noted, after heavy rain sections are a 'mudfest' - particularly through Dyscarr wood and up to Langold farm, and the section west of Letwell. The road to the edge of Dinnington across farmland is fast and open....

It is an easy and fairly direct route, but not particularly scenic....

The turning off the towpath onto the bridleway to Brantcliffe Grange is easy to find, but the actual route does not follow the line on the 1:25000 map (or the gpx track in Slow Ways), however it is a beaten track that is easy to follow....

We added a bit by taking the field path from St John’s to the west of Laughton le Morthen that takes you round to the big church....

Easy walk on roads or disused railway so flat and well surfaced. Route clearly signed through trading estate in Dinnington. Track section very pleasant with trees either side....

Basically it is a similar route but on the first section (junction of Station Road and Anston Avenue) instead of carrying straight ahead as this route directs you to, follow a footpath between houses up a hill, coming out at the top onto a farmers field then follow the diagonal footpath for a short distance across the field on to Kiveton Lane to rejoin the original route. It is a nicer walk away from the main road and also cuts the distance down). Another nice section (although very steep but for a short distance) is the footpath taking you up to The Green in old North Anston....

Also, although there are plenty of Footpath and Bridlepath signs, none of them indicate where they are going to, and so unless you have a map or know the area you wouldn`t know how to get to Dinnington....

a short route connecting Langold country park with the town of Dinnington which has bus connections to Sheffield and elsewhere. I have done this route on foot and mountain bike. I feel relatively safe apart from probably the woods at dark as a lone female....
