On the left, after the crossing, a small street leads down to the church. Immediately after crossing the small stream a small path on the right leads into the wood and joins the right-of-way. Just before joining New Orchard Lane the slope steepens, and the path dives off left and right through the trees and meets the by-way....

After skirting the English Heritage Roche Abbey estate it joins a track to join a lane. Straight ahead into the wood on an unmade track (still easy to follow)....

Walk this routeWe added a bit by taking the field path from St John’s to the west of Laughton le Morthen that takes you round to the big church....

However, the navigation from Carr to New Orchard Lane is tricky and the stretch from West Lane to New Orchard Lane is clearly marked Private Property....

It was quite isolated in places and muddy but don't believe any alternative route wouldn't be....
