(This is going west) If going west, where the route tells you to join the A82 at the Meeting of Three Waters, find the uphill path just behind the white house that runs for a couple minutes along the stream to an easy for. You then continue west along the hill to the car park west of the Meeting of Three Waters....

Walk this route

I walked this route with my friend and collague Ingrina as part of a wild camping trip! It's a spectacular route that mostly follows the West Highland way. Beautiful scenery and straightforward route....

Walk this route

I walked this during the autumn, so the colours were really gorgeous and made the scenery come alive much more....

Following the West Highland Way (it is the best route between the two nodes), the path is well signposted and well maintained so all you have to do is enjoy the scenery - and so much scenery there is! I started from Bridge of Orchy, where there is a hotel for any refreshments and facilities if required, or if you just wanted to sit on one of the nearby benches by the river and enjoy views of the pretty, stone bridge above the rushing river. We took in the picturesque views of the Glencoe mountains, taking a rest stop at the public toilets available, and then we followed a path along the road for a bit before turning north and heading up the Devil's Staircase. Whether or not you're doing the West Highland Way, this is absolutely a treat of a route, giving you everything from lowland walking to climbing a small summit with sweeping views....

Walk this route

The walk consists mainly of forestry and estate paths along Loch Etive and in Glen Kinglass. The path undulates along Loch Etive with some good views of the mountains around lower Glen Etive. From the Loch Etive/ Glen Kinglass junction the path climbs to a height of nearly 300 metres with the section from Glenkinglass Lodge (approx 4.5km) accounting for nearly 200 metres of that climb? I had enough kit to wild camp out and there are nice spots in the trees beside the river around the junction of Glen Kinglass and the Loch Etive path, beside Loch Dochard and near the Inveroran Hotel. I only have a few pictures of the earlier part of the walk as far as the Loch Etive Glen Kinglass junction....

RICHARD ANDERSON

Most of the time through this route you're tracking both the A82 and the line of the railway, swapping places occasionally thanks to little sheep tunnels or bridges....

Walk this route

I'm sure some day walkers will do this in a day but if you're carrying packs, this is a two-day chap with free camping at Kingshouse Hotel where the route crosses the A82. North of this, the route takes you past Glencoe and up the Devil's Staircase. South, you track old droving routes across Rannoch Moor, an utterly wild and unforgiving place, but gorgeous nonetheless....
